Wow! Very interesting!

Some day I wonder if it really worth trying the puzzles esp when they make no sense to me and is simply a matter of trying letters with no sense of direction for the puzzle. Oh well, there's always tonight.

I thought it was really fun. Now if I could just type. Oh well.

I stopped doing them when they became "short novels"

Well I enjoyed it. It was entirely fair, and the clues were'nt that long.
To quote Dicky V; dont give up dont ever give up.

I had to struggle through the first one to make sense of it, but once I had caught on, it was a pretty fun WP. Very clever!

That's Jimmy V. Dicky would be saying, "He's a PTP, baby!"

I hate these.

What fun is it to have to sit and put e t a o i n s h r d and l in before anything resembling a chance at picking our some words appear? And, annoyingly, usually having to scroll back up every time since the novel pushes the letter bar off the page?

Hey! The paragraph above could be the next word puzzle!

I liked it. And I hadn't been to the Salty Dog in weeks until last night. After looking over the comments on many different WPs, there are always some who like them and always some who don't. Life and let live ... That's what makes the world go round!

Fun puzzle. I can't wait for "Go Ahead and Wiki These"

I adored this WordPuzzle! I truly wished that I could have done all 10. It was clever and funny and made me laugh.

I never remember who the authors are of these puzzles, but thank you so much, whichever editor was responsible.

If you click again on Word Puzzles, you'll see the leaderboard, with the title and author of the current one prominently displayed.

This one was Sploofmonkey's.

Smaug .... You had to enter 11 letters before you could make a guess at the puzzle?

Welcome to *my* world!!! LOL

Iwas going to do this one but thought I would check this thread out first. After yesterdays "colonise" fiasco I decided I did not need the frustration. On to Pogo!!!

Yer not gittin' off that easy, Smug, I mean Smaug. Git outta the tree and put yer clothes on. The sheriff is comin' with the hounds.

Sploofmonkey, that was ingenious.
Enjoyed it.

don't get the criticism of this one. My puzzles didn't seem particularly long, and the theme was very clear after figuring out the first one. I thought it was clever & well done.

(And Alice, I love your new picture! =)

Basically, if I don't get the first one in 12 or under, I bail.

I think it was 14 on that for the first, 12 more for the second.

The thing is, it is a puzzle -- it is supposed to be a phrase you can guess without filling 2/3 rds of it in.

You wouldn't play hangman and have the word be TRFHJYJGFDD.

This is nothing, Smaug. You should have been around for this:

I would have enjoyed it immensely but I blew a LOT of moves on an incorrect guess, again and again, finally had to fill in almost all the letters to figure out that they used a different first letter on a word that I would have. Other than that issue, I thought this was a fun puzzle.

lol, Kaufman.

Easy Jesus said it best:

"""I finally just gave up. Are you kidding me? I actually was looking forward to this one but after realizing there was no way in hell this was possible, I just quit. I've never done that on a word puzzle before. Next week's word puzzle - names of people I have met in my life. You guys might have better luck with that one."""

Google, schmoogle...I'm glad one mystery is solved. Smaug speaks Welsh. Thanks for clearing that up.

Doc - will have to show your new avatar to my daughter - who wanted a superman (the old style) party for her 16th - lol

Googling did not help you on this puzzle - if you don't enjoy games like Wheel of Fortune, I would guess you wouldn't like any of the word puzzles.

I've always enjoyed that - almost got on the show twice- the challenge for me on ANY word puzzle is being able to pick the letters and guess those around them based on the positioning, regardless of the clue - without that challenge what would be the point?

My goal is to one day just end up on the top 10 -- like them or not, I have never bailed on one - I originally upgraded my sploofus so that I could do the WP's every day - other than the Salty Dog - it's my favorite part of sploofus! (there are others but those are my top 2!)

Just read Ken's thread re. the INFAMOUS WELSH QUIZ
It seems to me that the Rules for WPs must have
changed enormously since then....all this talk about
"ending up with ZERO points" means that was possible
"being unable to get the right letters in the right
order" means that ALL of the same letter didn't show
up at once....
Seems as if you took it today and NOW pressed
L,G,W,N,F and a few vowels, you'd have had
almost all of the required words....

Rules were the same, but the names were short, and it was a crapshoot what to pick after the obligatory L and W. Lots of "Sorry, there are no ..."

the more people discuss this welsh puzzle the more I wonder "when are they going to bring it back?"
If GWB can believe himself when he says 'bring it on' maybe I can try it too.

Don't tempt them Garry!! Just the thought of more Welsh ...

When I wrote this one I figured it would be a case of love it or hate it with nothing much in the middle. It was meant as a lateral thinking puzzle based upon finding and following a second interpretation of the clues. Getting the first answer was bound to take some doing, but after the trick is revealed it was the same gimmick all the way through, so subsequent answers should have been a lot easier.

I also know many people like the more straightforward puzzles where the test is just the selection of letters and not some trick. I'll try to get some more like than into the queue to try to balance things out.
