I know many families have their standard favorites...but I have always enjoyed what seems to be "different food" that our Texas and Louisiana blended families have brought.

My favorites are a cranberry salad passed down my great grandmother that consists of oranges, walnuts and fresh cranberries - YUM!

My other favorites are the 3 different types of dressings that take all day to prepare. My mom's family is from Louisiana, and just chopping the seasonings is an all day affair.
We have chicken & cornbread dressing, ground meat & cornbread dressing, and MY very favorite, rice & ground meat dressing - YUM!

New this year was a rich Kentucky chocolate chip pie contributed by my sister-in-law's mother.

I hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving meal and would love to see others that might have different foods than the "norm"!

A few years back I was treated to turkey with a wild rice, bacon and chestnut stuffing.
I believe it was a family tradition to do turkey that way.

Dangit, I never got the recipe, but it sure tasted fantastic!

When I was young the men in the family would take over the dining room an hour or two after dinner and eat salted cod (the kind that came in a wooden box). This stuff smelled so bad that I was relieved that the tradition had ended by the time I reached the age where I would have been included. I do not know if this had anything to do with our Irish heritage but I do believe it might have had something to do with the demise of those old dudes. Now we just drink beer.
