INTO THE ETHER

Is there any reason why a quiz should disappear (into the ether). I resubmitted a quiz ages ago and there were 12 quizzes ahead of it at the time. About 30 quizzes have come out since then and mine is still sitting there saying there are 12 quizzes ahead of it. I obviously don't understand how it all works.

Maybe the editor that was given the quiz hasn't had time to check any of the quizzes ahead of yours. It happens sometimes.
There was an explanation a short while back but I can't remember what the thread was titled.

Joee this is a copy of a response in the thread, 'Quiz pending' by PalmTrees. It wasn't the thread I was originally thinking of but the latter part of this explanation will probably shed some light on your question.

Sploofernatural: "When your quiz is pending, you can't change the questions and answers, but you can change the Quiz Description. Add a note on top in big capital letters, and your editor will be sure not to miss it. It can discuss a specific matter, or just ask that the editor send the quiz back to you immediately, so you can make further changes.

As for the speedy processing you experienced the next time through, do not be misled by the number of pending quizzes. Once your quiz has been reviewed for the first time, it is then "owned" by the editor who handled it, and when you relaunch, it goes to the head of that editor's queue. Thus, it will be taken care of the next time that editor edits, regardless of how many quizzes are "ahead" of it."

If you did want to read that whole thread, here's the url:

Joee, I looked at your authored quizzes, and I don't see any that are awaiting an editor's attention. They are all either live or in your own hands. If you feel this is not the case, please file a support ticket, mentioning the title of the quiz that has gone missing, and we'll try to track it down.

I realize it probably has something to do with the original editor knowing what they asked you to correct but I am opposed to this original editor being to only one to be able to "touch" a quiz once they have it (put their name on it-not even necessarily any corrections needed). One time I waited four days after launching a quiz and only after numerous support tickets asking the whereabouts of "MY" editor another kind one "stole" it an activated it. I realize editors volunteer time and have "other" lives but would much rather see my quizzes go back into the lineup-in the beginning it took forever but now moves fast unless due to some circumstance in his/her life an editor hangs it in limbo. My quizzes do not come back often and the editors are usually prompt and very kind to me but the other day got one back for not specifying US TV. From looking at other "live" quizzes including my own this shows great inconsistency among the editors thanks-that's all-Linda

I think I can speak for most, if not all of the editors in saying that once I receive a quiz to edit, I do not want another editor touching, except in the case of my extended absence, meaning more than a couple days. Having editors randomly grabbing and launching each others quizzes is nothing more than a recipe for a mess.

I was not your editor, but I agree with the idea that quizzes should tell the potential taker if its content is U.S., U.K., wherever. I would expect it to be in the quiz details, not necessarily the title. The fact that all editors are not requiring that is an inconsistency that we should clear up. I think when that happens, you are going to find that the editor who asked you to specify U.S. in your quiz details will be part of the majority.

Thanks Nsinu', that does clear things up for me because I thought the quiz just went back to the beginning of the queue - didn't realize it was kept by the same editor. And thanks for checking Sploofernatural. The quiz actually went live just after I posted my note which is why you couldn't find it.
Heidi, I agree with you, I was returned a quiz for two question marks which held it up almost a day. On the other hand an editor changed a whole question of mine probably to get the quiz out quickly but it changed the whole tone of the quiz from light hearted to serious, so I would have preferred it to have been returned. Guess they're doing what they feel is the most helpful. Thanks all! Jo

I thank you for your response and look forward to uniformity among the editors-fair for one-fair for all. Thank You-linda

Just checked 30 most recent and 25 most popular lists. Not one on the most popular list includes specification of US TV.-includes one of mine. In the 30 most recent mine is the only one and that is only because I was scolded and it was returned to me. Just wondering if this applies to movies and music also as those don't specify either-waiting for the "uniformity" and a post in a prominent place(the"Salty Dog" perhaps?) stating that -thanks -Linda

I started adding U.S. to my description if the quiz has only U.S. facts after I got a few comments from non-U.S. takers who said they wished they had known before taking the quiz. Before I take a quiz, I like to know if it involves totally non-U.S. info, culture, TV, etc. so I don't have to bail during the quiz.
