Right you are, Erin.

It's called Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or Dissociative Identity Disorder, not Schizophrenia.

My husband was married to a woman who had 8 documented different personalities. He never knew who'd he be waking up to in the morning - Yikes!

Now his sister, who had Schizophrenia, was killed by her friend, who also had Schizophrenia. People worry about people with Schizophrenia killing themselves, but the truth is, they are more likely to kill you than themselves - Double Yikes!

Blessings,

Sheri Ras.

You could web search for a better definition, but its more of a perception thing, like inanimate objects talking to you, or I guess animate ones that aren't supposed to, like your dog. Some hear voices in their head, like with most mental disorders, there are varying symptoms. If you have ever seen "A Beautiful Mind", that guy has schizophrenia. Some people say that Jack Nicholson's character in "The Shining" had it.

Actually, I don't get the humor in the announcement. This is a serious problem and we should be grateful that people are trying to address it.

All the recent uproar on here has proven that what people consider funny varies widely. What a blessing that the biggest problem we have is disagreeing on humor.

actually, you highlighted "Rex, Earl or Diane!!!!!!" -- so maybe it's like the word puzzle that I just can't see even though I should - I know that humor explained is less humorous - but try.

I find it humorous because it is incorrect. I grew up with a mother who suffered from chronic paranoid schizophrenia. If you don't find humor in unexpected places, you don't survive. The state of the mental health system in this country is abominable. I am sorry for those hurt by the mentally ill. I suffer from several illnesses that are considered mental illness. It doesn't mean I am crazy or insane. It means I can't cope with whatever life throws at me. My mother went to hell and back. Her sense of humor helped her cope. In her words, "I have papers that say I can be on the street; where are yours?"

Donden,
While I do like finding humor in unusual circumstances, I'm not sure where you are deriving yours from in reference to the ad. If it's b/c there are three coordinators to contact, regarding attendance of that meeting then you have your conditions confused. Schizophrenics don't have alternate personalities.
I can have a wry liberal sense of humor but I just don't see it. I for one am glad there's a more affordable alternative to the people in need out there. Many people are productive and asymptomatic b/c they're medicated and no one would know they were depressed just by interacting with them.

I certainly wasn't trying to import humor into what I was saying - please read my post again. My sister in law was killed by somebody with Schizophrenia - somebody she had trusted for many years - murdered, which isn't funny at all. I didn't think it was then and I certainly don't think it is now. There was, however, misinformation which I hope is now cleared up.

I'm truly sorry if I offended anybody and do ask humbly for your forgiveness.

Blessings,

Sheri Ras.

I make it a point not to sit in trees, they're always poking with an unseen stump of a branch & certainly not accompanied by any man with a long, unkempt, wild beard. Any number of things could be living in there.
