JANUARY CQ --- NEW YEAR, NEW QUIZ

READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!!

This is a little reversion to the early days. The goal is to make a quiz about your hometown on which everyone can stand a fair chance of scoring well. No one is going to do well or enjoy guessing the number of stop lights or the name of the hardware store on main street. While the challenge, as always, is for the taker to get 100%, the challenge for us authors is to make a quiz where that score is reasonably possible thanks to good hintage.

READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!! READ THIS FIRST!!!!!

It is time to start your CQ for JANUARY.

The TOPIC is: My Hometown

The CATEGORY will be: (JAN 08) MY HOMETOWN

TITLE for your quiz: (your name)'s Hometown

Example: Wizball's Hometown

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 6th

PUT THIS LINE AT THE TOP OF YOUR QUIZ DETAILS...Welcome to the January CQ, a game for quiz takers and makers.

+++++++RULES++++++++ (Please read them)

-- STANDARD COMMUNITY QUIZ RULES ver. 1.4 (3/20/06) --

These are the rules that apply to every Community Quiz (CQ).

1. All normal Sploofus (SQAG) quiz-writing rules to apply.

2. All quizzes must be exactly 10 questions in length.

3. Only one CQ per author per event.

4. No Fill-In-The-Blank or Kids quizzes.

5. Quizzes must be submitted within the announced submission window. CATEGORY CLOSES AT LAUNCH. QUIZZES NOT IN THE SYSTEM AT LAUNCH TIME WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED INTO THE CATEGORY.

6. Quizzes must be named as described in the event announcement

7. Quizzes must contain the common quiz description.

8. The interpretation of each CQ topic is entirely up to you, but it is still subject to the review Sploofus editors and must be able to pass the "reasonable person" test when it comes to being germane and meeting "Family Friendly" standards. But it helps if you remember that the more general and international it is, the more quiz-takers and points you'll get! Any specialist/regional restriction should be stated in the part of the quiz description for you personal description of your quiz.

9. Have fun

This is probally a dumb blond question, but are we listing the name of the hometown in the title or will it just read "Cathy's Hometown quiz"

It will be really interesting to see how these quizzes work out. It will be very dependent on the nature of people's hometowns. A person from London, England should not have any problem coming up with 10 questions, but someone from Battle Mountain, Nevada would have quite a bit of difficulty in creating 10 questions.

Awwww, come on. Now that Battle Mountain is exploiting its having been named armpit of the nation ...

I may have to do a quiz on the place!!!

I think that you could write a quiz on any place and come up with questions that aren't tricky. They could be tied to famous, well-known or common things. A town or place doesn't always have to have monuments, tourist attractions, professional sports teams, etc., in order to be question worthy. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone has dealt with their unique situations.

The quiz guidelines say you can't do something like "Aunt Thelma's Beauty Shop was located at what address?" but you can find something interesting about Aunt Thelma that would make a good question.

Even though I now live in Carson City I used to live in Pahrump, which is much more exciting. Can I maybe do one on Pahrump?

Sure. Go fer it.

My hometown was a city of almost 10,000 when I was born. 50+ years later, it is a city of a little over 10,000. However, the dynamics of it have changed a lot. The challenge was to create questions that people have a fair chance of answering. That involved lots of clues and hints on my part. The quiz taker who does their part of really reading the questions, their part, will have a fair chance at a good score.

My Surrey, UK village is less than 5,000.
So I, too, didn't ask the name of the high street's main pub!
But I have, hopefully, given an insight into English village life - but made the questions international.
Along the lines of:
(Some interesting(?) info followed by)... "And our local church was therefore first built around 800AD by the invaders who preceded the Normans. They would be Romans/Vandals/Neanderthals/Saxons/Picts".
Does that help at all?

I included a question regarding the name of my high school mascot. I think the clues are quite helpful as well as my new avatar.
