WORD PUZZLE POINTS

Personally, I think there should be a heck of a lot more points for good performances on word puzzles. I came in 5th on one yesterday and got 1000 points, and won a one question showdown and got 200,000...

I think it's because we already have the potential to get 5000 points on each word puzzle, so the extra points are actually a "bonus".

I stress the word think - I'm kind of dumb, ya know!!!

Blessings,

Sheri

hmmm.....well, I didn't think of that. But, still, someone who takes 200 moves and finishes dead last might get 5000 points, and a guy, a good looking guy in this scenario, might finish in the top ten and get 5,500.

I just think there should be more of a boost for top ten, top 5, whatever.

Of course, the old google argument will come up here as well....

I think a lot of folks agree, but if I remember the discussion from long ago, it has been kept low because of WP's vulnerability to unethical play, which higher rewards would further encourage.

I realize you were making a point in your 200 moves analogy, but a person can use a maximum of 130 moves, assuming all 26 letters were in each letter, and maintain his or her 5,000 points.

My preference would be to have more than 299 bonus points for #11, since a person who ranks 200th now does not receive less than 200 bonus points. Once a person goes over 10th place, it really doesn't matter much...less than selecting one wrong letter in a puzzle.

Maybe the real answer is for showdowns not to pay so many points?

After all, it's ONE question, as opposed to the real work people do for those much fewer points on WP.

Well, not to kill the golden goose, but I've won 11 of my last 12 showdowns, and gone from 1.6 mil to 4 mil in two weeks...

Which, you know, validates my pathetic existence....

Well, I certainly can't blame you for not wanting to change the showdowns. I can be jealous of you, but not blame you.

Of course the 130 move limit assumes we can type what we see on the screen in front of us.

Something similar happens with WR and WM. Points drop in half at No. 11 and below. The main difference there is that you have a shot at more points again in another hour. With Word Puzzle, only two tries a day.

(Smaug, impressed with your fast tracking in points. Huzzah!)

Wow, Smaug, I didn't realize you've only been a member since June. You just jumped right in and stirred stuff up, huh?

Correct, Kaufman. My 200 move scenario called for 17 incorrect guesses.

It wasn't just a number I idlely tossed out.

i don't think showdown or wager awards should be changed b/c of word puzzle or word round concerns. both of the former are just percentages of all-time pts. while i try to get in every wp i can, sometimes it's not in the cards. the showdowns & wagers take up the least amount of time which is especially good for people with overly busy lives. besides there are many who might do showdowns & wagers who probably don't care to do wm's & wp's. the most frustrating thing for me, in wp's, is picking the wrong letters; minus 100 pts for ea offense.

but what i would like to be able to see before taking a wp is some indication of the long puzzles b/c i was thinking i'll just sneak in a quick wp, but didn't realize that ea one was almost like a little paragraph. for some reason i feel obligated to finish them.
it's not very important to see the results of others beforehand, but maybe a note under the title (about ea puzzle being 4 lines long or more) would be nice.

Leah,

Why wait for anything? We are all going to be dead a long time.

These questions and comments have arisen periodically during my time on sploofus by long standing players and newcomers alike. Because of these questions and comments, WP's have been changed. This dialogue is important feedback to those making the ultimate decisions. Stirring things up isn't just for the old-timers, is it?

Eesus, I wasn't talking about Smaug stirring up WP stuff. I rarely even read those complaints. I meant Smaug's amazing ability to get people's panties in a bunch. Seems like he's been doing THAT alot longer than 6 months. Much to my amusemnt, may I add.

Please do not use the word panties in the same sentence as Smaug. It brings up painful memories.

Stirring things up and causing arguments is not my intention, and i believe it just sometimes arises from my long opposition to abortion and my vehement contention that abortion is murder.

To my point, since December 1, I have gained 1.2 million points in 5 showdowns. So 6,000 for a much harder WordPuzzle win seems disproportionate. I'd have to win both AM and PM WordPuzzles from now until January 1, 2011 to equal that. And I'm on vacation in July, 2009, so no way.

PS: As if I ever had a WordPuzzle win. I think I've had a 3rd and a 5th....
