I'm not Barry - but perhaps I can help.

When you see those squiggly letters and numbers or weird words that you must copy, you just type them into the box; you don't need to try to duplicate their strange appearance. The reason they are so hard to read is so an automated computer program cannot figure them out - only the human eye is supposed to be able to decipher what the letters are!

I've never heard of buying a puppy online, but good luck to you on that!

Firstly, let me say my heart goes out to you. Many feel that the death of a beloved pet is akin to that of losing a child, and I know it must be very painful. Good luck with finding a sheltie that meets your needs. Secondly, please be aware that often online sites use puppy mills, and the animals are badly mistreated in those facilities. Many animal rights activists feel that the best way to deal with puppy mills to show absolutely no support and make no purchases from them. However, there are many reputable breeders online. It's often very hard or impossible to tell if they are "good" or "bad" breeders. I don't know off hand if there is some sort of certification you can look for, but I will research it and PM you if I find something. I'm so sorry for your loss.

You have my sympathies, I know how you feel. Here's a website that lists the major registries. Go to the home pg to see the most precious picture - check out the puppy on the leash.

The PetPlace pg looks like it could be helpful for some. This site has articles, but I haven't tried to look @ most of the info here. I got the registry url from another that listed it as a reference for those who were looking to purchase a dog from a reputable caring source.

I forgot to mention the PetPlace is another pg on that site.

If you were close to me, I have 9 puppies that need homes.

In Canton, they tend to drop dogs off out in the country - we currently have 4 dogs and now 9 8 week old puppies from the last drop off. -

Are you really wanting a Sheltie, or would one of Kaelin's pups help to heal your heart and fill your home? I know she's in Texas and you're in Michigan - there's a lot of us between here and there.

I'm in Iowa which is between you two. I'd be glad to help get a pup to you from a known good home like Kaelin - maybe pick it up from someone and drop it off to someone else - maybe we could form a Sploofus family chain and get one of those pups to you if you want one.

Just a crazy idea I had - I think we could make it work - if you want Heidi!

Let us know!

What a lovely idea Virginia. I only wish I could help but a bit too far away. You sound like a big softie - just like me and my hubby. Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year to a like minded soul

I love the idea of a Sploofus chaing to get a puppy from Texas up the Heidi. Sorry I can't help though ... I'm way on the wrong side of the country!

If Kaelin can bring a puppy my way, I can start a route up north or northeast into Oklahoma or Arkansas. Anyone there who could transport the poochie on the next leg?

Is this going to be like the game of telephone?

Like she winds up with a rabbit or a baby cougar or something?

Rabbits are dangerous.

If this is really going to happen, then someone needs to organize the route and the baton carriers.

I can do the delivery to Detroit from somewhere in southern Michigan as long as it can be coordinated with my regular driving job.

Tuzilla, I think as long as Smaug is left out of the conga line, Heidi shouldn't worry about getting a rabbit.

hey folks this is a wonderful idea.. but you're headed in the wrong direction.

from Linda's post above:
""my problem is i want a sheltie and st. cloud seems to have a real shortage of them-""

her profile says she WAS from Michigan, now St. Cloud FL.

St. Cloud is a small town outside of Orlando.

Smaug, keep your hands off my offspring. Old cougars really bite & scratch

Great catch there Chyenn!!

Iowa is off the map for this puppy delivery service - we're getting more snow now - maybe it's a sign I need to head south!

The Paws-Itive Partners Humane Society I belong to assists in escorts from one state to another frequently. This one is a little far, though.

However, I looked up Sheltie Rescue in Florida and I found this name, e-mail and phone number. I don't know how the Sheltie Rescue works but I know that some of the other breed rescue groups (for instance, Lab Rescue and Golden Retriever Rescue) screen the dogs so they know something about the dog, its temperment, etc., before they accept it for rescue.

Please consider a rescue dog, or even one from a shelter. There are so many unwanted dogs ... go on my profile page and take a look at my beautiful Sami Jo - she was just 4 hours from being euthanized when I got her, and my new little sweet guy, Chance, was to be put down the next morning.

And there's nothing wrong with it if you still want to just have your own little puppy that hasn't been owned by someone else. Just offering some options for you.

You are all so kind. Talked to a lady who has a healthy pup. She is about an hour and a half from me-little bit of a long drive for me at my age. She and her husband are considering bring the pup to me and I would pay for it and their expenses. Surprising how many good people are out there as the news emphasizes the "no-goods' it seems. Thank you all for your kind hearts-Linda

Smaug, if you die suddenly, like, maybe get hit by a car or something, we'll probably try and replace you with a nice gentle puppy, too.
