Did anyone get any new books for Christmas. I got four and they are:

"The Innocent Man" by John Grisham
"Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert
"Pandora's Daughter" by Iris Johansen
"Savoring Soups & Salads" - Williams-Sonoma

And I received a gift card for Chapters Book Store.

Happy reading everyone and enjoy your new books.

I got a couple of books on my Amazon wishlist from my sister: The Darwin Awards by Christopher Kelly, An Arsonist's Guide to Writers' Homes in New England by Brock Clarke and The Lives of Shadows: An Illustrated Novel by Barbara Hodgson. I do not remember putting that last one on my wishlist, but it truly looks fascinating

I got no books. Seems everyone is afraid to buy me books. My grandson thinks I already have every book there is. My husband wishes I'd get rid of some of the ones I already have. Maybe by next year the book store gift card suggestion will percolate through to someone. Anyone.

I have that same problem this year, everyone thinks I have too many books so no one will buy me any! What is the world coming to?

I got "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. I just completed "The Kite Runner" also by him. That is a must read.

Marsha: I am listening to the Kite Runner on audiobook and really enjoying it. I am definitely going to download The Thousand Splendid Suns when I am done with it!

The Kite Runner was excellent. Looking forward to reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns."
The Kite Runner movie should be good as well, perhaps not as good as the book.

I've got The Kite Runner sitting on my "to read this year" shelf (yeah, I'm running a little behind, there are still 16 books on that shelf, and I'm about to need a new shelf).

I'm pleased to see you all recommend it so highly.

Loved both the Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns...I actually liked Suns better. You really get the feel of what it is like to live in a culture that supresses women so badly but...there are glimmers of love and hope in the book too. Be prepared to read it in one can't put it down. The author is a physician living in CA but is Afghani.

Oh, and book gift cards RULE. I received two really dumb books and I'll have to return them. Much more fun to pick out what you want!
