The last college bowl game is January 7th. My husband will begin to stir and carefully peel, one leg at a time, off the couch. He will blink several times as eyes will slowly refocus on his surroundings. He'll stand, stretch, burp, toot, and scratch himself like a bear just out of hibernation. He will accept me, as he vaguely remembers my scent as the pair of arms thats set food in from of him every Saturday. With time, he will remember my name, and I will have my husband back. Until spring training.

I am happy to report that I am not a football widow.

However, Scott went outside at 8:30 a.m. this morning and has been riding and tinkering on snowmobiles ever since. Its now almost 2:30 p.m. Fine by me. I'll take that any day because he pretty much leaves me alone and I can listen to my music all day long.

If my choice was tinkering outside on a snowmobile or listening to Easy bleat along to John Tesh, I'd be outside too.

If a person enjoys college football, it is probably that he thinks he (or she) is a football purist. I only watch college football to see either Notre Dame or USC get pounded, throw in Florida and LSU, too. I am of the age that when I was an 18 year old, college was privilege, not a necessity. Kids have to go to college to actually achieve the knowledge most of us got in four years of high school. As far as collegiate sports go, most of the programs cheat, anyway. Have you ever listened to a college kid do an interview on TV or radio.

At least a particular sport has a season. That season is over, and poof! the couch potato reverts to life.

My husband, on the other hand, is the quintessential nerd. Something captures his attention, and he will sit for days with his laptop in front of the TV. Gets annoyed if I change the channel too - claims he is watching it and knows what is going on. When that topic passes off the radar, there is always another. Lately the earjacks have been in, too.

In fairness, I have to admit that he does all of the laundry, and much of the cooking. And it is really not too difficult to pry him away from his audio-visual world. It's just annoying to come into the house and realize he doesn't have a clue that I am back.
