this morning i lost a wager of 16+ million points and fell 24 places down on the leaderboard. i was being quite vocal about it (NO! how could i miss a vocabulary question! NO! NO! NO!)

As i ranted and whined, Shotzy, our mini long-haired dachshund crawled out from under the covers and began licking my cheek.

i giggled, scratched his ears and gave him a hug. he wagged his tail and promptly burrowed back under the covers.

all is right with the world again.

Bad luck Chyenn But you're quite right - animals do have a way of making everything right with the world!

Yes Chyenn...
that's why dog-lovers generally have lower blood pressure
and fewer health problems than other mere mortals....

They say "a trouble shared is a trouble halved" but humans
don't love unconditionally. So - when all else fails....
your dog still loves you passionately.......

So sorry you lost those points. Arrrrgh! But I'm glad your dog made you feel better!

When we had to put our beloved springer spaniel down many years ago, our vet wouldn't let us be with her when she went. We took her to the local pet cemetery where a mobile vet came and put her down. Later, as we were waiting to settle the account, a tiny beautiful Papillion jumped up on each of our laps and licked the tears off our cheeks and stayed on each lap until she felt we were better. I'll never forget it.

dogs are remarkable in sensing things.

my spinal injury causes me to have episodes of fainting. Shotzy senses when i am going to have a spell, usually before i am aware of it. when i was still able to walk he would circle in front of me then run to my chair and bark. he prevented several falls.

the amazing thing -- he isn't a trained service dog. it is just his nature.

i would probably be in a nursing home if he wasn't such a loyal, devoted companion.

Oh my gosh! My dogs would probably get the hell out of the way and then fight over who was going to snag the sandwich out of my hand after I fainted.

My sister, though, has a service dog that is pretty amazing.
