I posted this in ask the audience because I thought I might get an answer but haven't so here goes in case someone that frequents the Salty Dog might know!

When you promote a link to one of your quizzes and a new member signs up - do you get the credit like a sploofus link?

Don't know. I sent invites to someone but the emails never went through to her. She signed up anyway and I never got the points. So it must somehow be link driven but the details are beyond me.

I know! I Know!!!

Ooh Ooh Ooh, call on me!

I sent "ynotsploofus" an invite about a year ago. When he reached level 2 (I think),I receive 10,000 points.

I think...

I might not have asked this right so I'll try again

For instance here is my link that I would send people to (not emailing through sploofus system)

If I sent people to (not real link - just making something up) - if a new person clicked on that quiz to take it, saw they had to sign up - would I get credit for that person like I would by sending the first one - the link points one.

Hopefully I was more clear than before.

Lorri: In the case of the direct link you would not get the referral credit. That link would be accessible anywhere on the internet.

YES YOU DO! I put a link (that has my user name in it, like in your example above) on my school web-page. I made my students use that link to log-in here and take a quiz I had written for them. They all now show up on my "referrals list". Only three of them ever stayed around long enough to make it to level 2 though!

Suz: The one she is talking about is the direct link to one of your quizzes. The html in that contains no way to track which user placed the link.

Exactly Robin

Since I am the author tied to a quiz, I'm trying to find out if a new person signs up - will I get the credit since my username is tied to the quiz.

It's actually REALLY important!

I don't know for a fact, but from my knowledge of how HTML works, I would say that the key is the username - if the link used to access the site has your username in it, the new user will be credited as your referral; if not, it won't.

If you check under the Referrals page (Your sploofus Space > Referrals and Links > Sploofus Linkpoints) both the links given to use for referring people include the "?ref=yourname" bit in the code.

The system only knows what it's told; if your username is not in the code, it can't know it's your referral. Otherwise people would be credited as your referrals every time your quiz happened to be the first they took, no matter how they got here.

Lorri, an editor responded to your same post in ask the audience, if someone already said that in this thread I apologize, I didn't read the whole thread.

Thanks Jeremey I saw -

It doesn't help - I wanted to send the latest quiz I did out to my fellow classmates (graduates of almost 30 years ago) - it's not good when it gets complicated.

Click on this link first and sign up - and then go click on this
link and take this really funny quiz I wrote.

Hopefully the programmers for 2.0 will be able to add this in - because it would be alot easier to promte a great quiz then say "hey join" this- in a quick email anyway - to be able to target your friends with something they have an ifinity for would be great.

Uh Oh - just had another inspiration - I'll save it for 2.01

There is a hyperlink called "Track Your Referrals" on the "Your Sploofus Space" page (which is also called "Account Home" in the drop-downs). Has another link on that page "To refer more people, just click here".

It has a simple text box to type in a message, which could maybe include a link to your quiz, and another text box to list up to 100 email addresses to send the message to.

Maybe you can look at it and tell how it works? Could be close to what you are looking for.

I could do that - the only problem is that coming from sploofus, since they aren't members it might go to spam - I thought of trying that way - and I will try that way.

fingers crossed

Why not ask one person to try it?? Post the link to your quiz, have a friend use the link to come to Sploofus and take the quiz. Then look in your referrals list and see if their name shows up?? It should show up there as soon as the person logs in.

If it works you can then tell all your friends to use that link to get here!

When you list people whom you want to refer, the message sent is shown to be from you, not Sploofus. There is a place when you list these people for you to put a personal message, and it could be to look for your quiz titled "xyz". The message sent also tells the referral your screen name so the new people can look for your quizzes under your screen name.
