MY GRIPES RE SPLOOFUS

Firstly.... out of 10 daily questions 6 have been music and musicians. Why is that??? One has been sport yet I am sure I said NO to sport.... as they are nearly ALWAYS American sport based, it's too hard for an Aussie. Secondly, with the damned showdowns.... there MUST be a solution to make this fairer for people who have dial-up (like myself). I often answer the question right but too slowly.... the other person has answered in something like 4 seconds yet my page takes 12 to load. PLEASE make these things fairer.

All good points. Fill out a support ticket and you should recieve a response of "whatever" promptly.

Have a wonderful day,
Felix

I was having a similar problem with my TQOTD, and unfortunately I was also getting my two worst categories almost constantly for weeks! I finally decided to try the exemption of one of them, and since then I have seen categories I hadn't seen in a month.

Others have mentioned the dial-up issue as well as it pertains to showdowns. I have DSL and it doesn't seem to help me (ha). But honestly, I am not sure there is a good way of equalizing that one.

I think someone had the idea that if both people get a question right in a showdown, it should result in a draw the way it does when they both get it wrong, and neither person gets points. I don't think time should enter into it at all; it's clearly a big problem for many people and a winner shouldn't be determined by what sort of connection they can afford or only have available. I agree with that concept.

Nicely said Diane,in the showdowns time should not enter into it,I accept it gracefully if I get it wrong but if I get it right also but a few seconds shy because of connection it is a real bummer because they challenged me and it sort of makes one feel like a stepping stone for the challenger, not quite fair after all a draw is a draw whatever way you look at it,I have seen it take 15 sec for page to load so you really don,t stand a chance just my thoughts on this and you can,t just not anwser because then they win by default........Kathy

I agree...I had to wait...and wait...and wait for my question to load...what did I do? I pushed the button again....Noooo!!!!So I challenged him not once...but three times.. (Yes, I pushed it again) So needless to say I got the question right but I was too slow and my competitor got it correct too.
I sent a ticket just to make sure that I don't lose 3 times to the same question...I have learned my lesson....

I agree that the Showdowns are not fair. If you challenge someone and they don't respond for seven days for whatever reason, you win whether you answer the question correctly or not. Maybe you should have to answer competing questions until one person misses or one person gets the question right. That would be fun and challenging I think.

Well, my nice and fast cable connection hasn't helped me much lately. I've still lost several due to time...

I like Linenlady's suggestion that time shouldn't be a factor. I think a showdwon should continue until either each participant misses the same question (and the challenge ends in a draw) or until only one participant gets the question correct. If you both get it correct, the challenge should continue with another question (and maybe a percent or two added on to the prize to heighten the tension).

Agreed with Diane...time shouldn't enter into it, at least not until a way is found to do the timing independent of the connection speed. I also love the idea of a "running showdown" [thanks to whoever suggested that; I wish I could see the thread I'm responding to without having to open two windows ] where it continues until one person gets it wrong and the other gets it right. That's a great idea.

No kidding about needing a pause. I usually seem to get a phone call in the middle of a wordround!

I'm only a month old around here, and just discovered this part of the Sploofus site. Of course, I am totally addicted to the trivia. But now, I have a question. From this thread, it appears that you can tell Sploofus that you don't want certain categories of questions for your Daily Question. Is that true? I know absolutely nothing about either Music or Sports, and seem to get them all the time. I get them right an amazing percent of the time just by blind luck. But I would rather not see them at all. Is that possible? Thanks, Alice

Bigbird, you can choose one subject to be exempt from. on your "command center" page at the top there is a click-down menu "Choose Your Destination" when you click on that, there will be an option "TQOTD category exemption" or something like that; it mentions TQOTD anyway. once you choose that, be sure to hit "GO" and it will take you to a screen that shows the categories and you can choose which to opt-out of. Once you've chosen which one you don't want, hit "Update" and you should be set.
