ANYONE A FOSTER PARENT?

We are looking into it, and I was wondering if anyone had experiences they would share and answer a couple questions. Thanks!

My sister was a foster parent many times over. She said it was very rewarding but it broke her heart every time she had to give the child back. Eventually, a baby boy came into their lives as foster parents and they had him from the time he was a newborn until he was almost a year old. He was part of the family. They began the process to adopt when suddenly he was returned to his birth mother who had given him up at birth because of massive drug addictions and alcoholism. It nearly broke my sister in half knowing what kind of life to which this child was returning. That was it. The emotional toll was too much and she never fostered again. She did hear a few months later, that the little boy was (as expected) removed from the birth mother and placed in another foster home.

Foster parents (the good ones) are amazing people and I am so thankful for them. But you have to go in knowing that each child is only temporary.

My brother was, and a very good friend of mine was too. They both ended up adopting the kids they fostered (which is apparently not very easy to do) and never fostered again.

I have several students who live in foster situations. If you think I have any insight that might help you we can chat via PM, but I don't really know too much.

Philanthropic? Maybe a philogynist, possibly a philistine....
