I DEMAND A SMAUG FACTION

None of the factions fit my needs. In fact, I believe I may have a civil rights case for prejudice...hmmmm..

Well, putting a pin in my litigation thought against Justin.....I think we need a New Faction.

I humbly put myself forth as the leader, and new big toe, of this soon to be leading faction..

Here is our philosophy:

This faction subscribes to the promotion of comedy as the single most important human characteristic and only real laudable goal for any action, statement, or enterprise by any individual or state. In a world full of horror, mayhem, and man's inhumanity to man, you can count on a Smaug faction member to arrive at the scene of a tragic crisis or gory massacre and suggest you pull his finger.

Wouldn't camcorder be more likely than a finger pull?

This idea is too good to just let it go.

With full respect and honors to the de facto Big Toe of Sploofus humor, please consider the following proposed philosophy for a New Faction. It's like Smaug's, but more symmetrical with the structure of the existing factions, possibly more generally appealing. Discuss, compare, contrast, give it a pull, and if enough people like it, maybe it will happen.

The Olecranon
This faction subscribes to a philosophy of encouraging the practice and promotion of humor and comedy in human affairs. The Olecranon represents a bravely burning candle of satire, exaggeration, and buffoonery in a world seemingly dominated by horror, mayhem, and darkness. By pointing a finger at the unacceptable, and suggesting that you give it a pull, the Olecranon seeks to invoke the blessings of laughter upon the weary and downcast.

Sounds like more of a PROCESS than a faction.

Do you mean the name or the description? Compare to the descriptions of the existing factions:

The Alliance
This faction subscribes to scientific academia in the most pure form. Alliance members pledge a disposition that supports academic excellence in astronomy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, technology and other pure sciences.

The Globe
This faction subscribes to a liberal arts doctrine which amplifies the studies of music, literature, drama, poetry, art, philosophy and other expressionist movements. The Globe represents advancement in these liberal art studies.

The Trivium
This faction subscribes to the advancement of obscure facts and trivial knowledge to serve a culture of expansive awareness with an intellectual approach. The Trivium represent order in a sea of informational chaos.

A more svelte version:

The Olecranon
This faction subscribes to a philosophy of encouraging the practice of humor in human affairs. The Olecranon represents a bravely burning candle of comedy in a world seemingly dominated by darkness. By pointing a finger at the unacceptable, and suggesting that you give it a pull, the Olecranon seeks to invoke the blessings of laughter upon the downcast.

Wouldn't this be something that a guy like Tom Green would do ?? No offense intended John.

Not sure what you mean, Liam. I think Smaug had a good idea and my attempts to enlarge upon his work is sincere. Almost said serious, that's probably an oxymoron. The Olecranon faction is something I could join. Tom Green's brand of humor was/is not everyone's cup of tea but he could make me laugh out loud sometimes. Sometimes just wanted to look away, too. Of course no offense taken, Liam, even though my name isn't John. Unless you weren't talking to me. In which case, never mind.

Geez Robin! I can't believe you sailed that one right over my head like that, either. I was so serious about it, too. See, people like me really need more humor, and in this case, stronger coffee.

That is indeed the Fat Man, Smaug and Ken. I know you two are, or were, Deadheads. I'm still in intermittent mourning, miss looking forward to the occasional Show. I hadn't connected up the missing finger...coffee, must get coffee...or something...

And a fetching huckleberry you make, indeed, Lori.

Any rewrite suggestions for the proposed Faction statement? Anybody?

Any editorial Deus ex Machina care to chime in? hope i spelled that right....

Nice!

I have to get around to writing a Deadhead quiz.....I wrote this really long one, took forever to research, and it had so much back and forth in editing that I got pissed off and deleted it.

the faction statment is good rj. I think it should be seriously considered. The insight issue here would really be the addition of "entertainment" as a marketing factor.

Plus, the faction stuff is deader than Kelsey's nuts, so why not throw something in...

I love that Kelsey phrase for the double-entendre. "Dead" means as in "bolted tight, dead on"
From the web:

John Kelsey was one of the pioneers of car manufacture in the USA. With the encouragement of Henry Ford, he set up the Kelsey Wheel Company in 1910. By 1913 this was based in Windsor, Ontario, just across the river from Detroit. To start with, he manufactured the wooden wheels that were then state of the art, but later moved into making wire-spoke wheels and later steel wheels. As Kelsey-Hayes Canada Ltd, the company still exists.

The saying refers to the proverbially secure attachment provided by the nuts and bolts on the wheels that Kelsey’s company made. In the view of the public, nothing could be fixed more tightly. And the obvious anatomical innuendoes in those nuts made the saying just a little naughty. Though some examples are recorded from the 1930s, the phrase began to become more widely known in the 1950s. Early on, it appeared as “tighter than Kelsey’s nuts” to mean a person who was stingy or mean, and is also recorded in the form “as safe as Kelsey’s nuts”, meaning very safe.

It was one of Nixon's favorite terms.
