i think it refers to the random outages sploofus suffered before and during some upgrading and maintenance Justin did a while back.

From my experience, they use the term a lot in "Shout" on WR's & WM's. Sometimes the screen starts acting up, and there's a delay before your questions come up after you click the start button, and you get an unusually fast score like a "fluke" or something, and they call it a "Quake". I have gotten like a 12 or 14 in WR's when it happens, which I know I didn't do that fast. I'm usually in the 20's at best. It doesn't happen very often anymore or like it used to. It could be Justin working on the system and Beta 2.0 which affects it. I don't know.

Justin explained that Sploofus runs on multiple database servers, and sometimes when they fall out of sync, weird stuff happens. This manifested itself most often in the WR/WMs, but a few months ago, Justin installed some "shock absorber" software so that we wouldn't lose our Rounds when a quake came over them.
