Many of us DO them. I rarely have a showdown token for more than a day. I always use them very quickly.

Some of us are very conservative by nature. We know we can't do anything with the points so it really doesn't matter if we win a bunch or lose a bunch. They are points. Period. But some of us just want to go for the "sure" thing and stick to gaining points by doing puzzles, writing quizzes, etc.

Another reason someone might not do a showdown is because they have dial-up computer access and it's about impossible to answer a question quickly enough to win.

And some people just aren't interested. Doesn't mean they are poor sports. They just don't do showdowns. It's not their "thing."

I always wait for someone to challenge me so I won't lose any points if I don't answer correctly or fast enough.

I love to do showdowns but learned early on NOT to challenge anyone if I had more than .2 level points, because you lose them if you lose the showdown!

Of course, I have no real reason to really care what my level is, just as I have no real reason to care how many points I have or how many showdowns I "win" because others don't answer...but I DO care

I thought you only lost your level points on wagers, not showdowns.

oops - I got confused...

For Showdowns, when challenging, I just look carefully at my opponent's speed record and wait to challenge someone who has a slower average than I do

first time ive come in here, and at last i can apologize to a couple of people in sploofus who have challenged me to a showdown, and i haven't reciprocated. they know who they are. well, its because i dont have access to a computer everyday now, and havent for the last 7months. im on my daughters at the moment, and making the most of it, lol, some times ive gone 2 weeks without a computer, and as soon as i get on it and see ive got a showdown, i go to it, and bad luck, out of time. i love showdowns, and this is so frustrating not to have a computer. im working on it, but it takes awhile to get the money together. thanks diane

If someone challenges you and you don't respond, they get the points by default. Don't apologise. You are the kind of challengee I keep looking for! Just kidding, hope you get your source of Sploofus nailed down. I hate it when I'm cut off.

I have wondered about that too although I myself have had problems with them in the past because of my computer setup. I gave up for awhile because I was having so many problems and losing points. Also my broadband isn't always great even now. Overall it looks like some people just like doing them and some can't for setup reasons and sometimes they are away from a computer. However if you can catch up with me I will be happy to take you on and claim some of your points!!!
