Just curious but why do we have "fill in the blanks" ? More double standard i take it.

Don't remember, Karen, ever having a fill in the blank on QOTD questions. Maybe someone else has.

Greyghost, I don't know what you mean by "more double standard" but there is no double standard in this case. Many, if not most of TQOTD were written before the FITB ban went into effect. We have not deleted the FITB quizzes which already exist, and we have not deleted the very few FITB questions in the database. Also, the reasons for banning FITB quizzes do not apply to TQOTD, so it would serve no purpose to anyone to remove them.

We only have 30 seconds to answer a TQOTD, and I believe FITB questions are absolutely appropriate and do not necessarily make the questions easier. It just makes them faster to read.

I have only seen a couple of TQOTDs with a paragraph for the question, and long phrases for answer choices, and I don't care to see anymore like that!

If you get a QOTD you think is excessively long, please report it via support ticket and note the ID number, and we will gladly review the question.

I have done this twice, at the request of an editor, with 2 very different results. The first time, I was told nothing could be done about TQOTD that were overly lengthy because they belonged to the original editor/author, and the 2nd time I got an editor who said that it was a HORRIBLE question, submitted it to the other editors for possible revision or deletion, and sent me a new one.

I was happier with editor no. 2.

Why worry about FITB questions ?? Have you ever checked how many questions ask for the answer that wants the selection that is wrong or don't fit. Oops !!, I think I've complained about this before. What surprises me is how many players accept these questions without objection. I'm glad my three sons (two who are teachers) were always asked to find the correct answers.

Maybe the people who don't mind those types of questions are familiar with them from playing "One of These Things is not Like the Other" when they were kids, or with their kids, for the past 40 years or so. I have no problem with questions like that, but it is nice when they have a great big honking NOT in them to tell me at a glance what I'm looking for.

Is this REALLY an issue? FITB quizzes are not allowed, but the old ones are still there; why shouldn't the old QOTDs be there as well? Geezus. Sometimes it sounds as if people are just looking for reasons.

I now get the concern here. Today I had a fill in the blank "Not" question.
I was just about to click on the wrong answer when I did a double take.
No one's fault but my own, I realize, but it does work against speed.

Oh heck, that's nothing. Here's the premise of a question I had this week:

At one time...........blah blah blah blah, and then blah blah blah. Which of the following is correct regarding this statement: blah blah blah blah?

1. TRUE because blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
2. TRUE because on this date blah blah blah blah blah.
3. FALSE because this really happened blah blah blah blah.
4. FALSE because this other fact really happened on this date, blah blah blah blah.
5. TRUE because this country and this thing happened on this date, blah blah blah.

In reality, the question was WAY longer than that. I did report it and the editor agreed it was a horrid question. But given the choice between this type of question and a simple Fill in the blank? No contest.
