An update on what's happening with the new system would be a good thing. It will be a year in April past the time that Beta or 2.0 was going to go live. A progress report from time to time might help!

I hardly think Chenne's comment is a whine and thus deserving of the familiar comment, "Cheese" which seems to be a word some folks use when they have nothing constructive to answer. I for one would like some answers as i am sure many lees vocal folks might as well-Linda

Justin's only mistake in this area was to announce his intentions to improve Sploofus in advance, thus prompting the whining (and now bad-natured grousing) on the part of those inclined to such things. If you don't think that first post was in that category, then you don't know it when you see it. Or smell it. That's just my opinion though, don't be mean if you reply.

Rjenson..
With all due repect, you haven't been here long enough to come to that conclusion.
Greyghost has been here since 2004, long enough to remember the teams, the gift certificates, the "sale" of the site to "Fugazi Games", including Justin's farewell.
The many promises of new things to come have become tiresome to myself as well as many other members. I actually renewed my membership last April 14 so I could register for the Beta 2 site. I eagerly awaited the BIG changes for mid August; again nothing. The site is becoming old.

If in fact a Beta 2 is coming out why not release some features as an Alpha version so paying (and former paying) members will become excited about the site again.

This is my opinion only. Your mileage may vary.

Maybe they feel the same way.A lot of people has joined with the expectations of more games, etc something different than the same old hum drum sites. Instead of Sploofus Island and sunbathing,i for one am going to make snow angels, lol, gee lighten up,grab your snowsuit and join me,i will even make the hot chocolate!!!!!!

Karen - I think we do have something here that is "different than the same old hum drum sites". There are a whole bunch of different ways to enjoy the site. For me, it is WordPuzzles, and I wouldn't much care if there was nothing else here except WordPuzzles. Though, when I have the time, I do enjoy writing quizzes.

Obviously, there are others who love the WordRounds (not me - I cannot do better than about 28 seconds), or just chatting with others on these boards. And then, of course, there are the thousands and thousands of quizzes.

I haven't been around as long as you, and wasn't here for any of those things that EHodgson mentioned, but I honestly do believe that Justin is working on things. I agree with Rjenson that Justin's mistake was announcing a date for release. I'm sure he didn't want to release a site that wasn't perfect - and it probably was buggy, and he is, no doubt, working on it to exterminate the vermin.

Since you are not enjoying the site, maybe you can give the gift back to your donor, and that donor can give it to someone who will appreciate it. It seems to be a white elephant around your neck.

"With all due repect, you haven't been here long enough to come to that conclusion."

You're right. I've never heard about any of the things you mention. I like Sploofus for what it is, and that's why I signed up. If I find that I don't like it any more, I'll probably not renew my account again. I don't think I'll hang around complaining about it. Life is too short to waste.

All I was trying to say was, there is not enough to keep many of the old members excited about Sploofus.

Take a look at the all time leaderboard and see how all the oldtimers are sliding down the list. Many have not renewed while others don't bother playing any more.

With over 40,000 members more have to be paying members to keep the site going. Talking about sunshiny days, hugs, and the smell of little kittens is not going to do it.

I await a blast.

Depends on who is in the hug,

I've been here a long time and am pretty burned out on the games. However, I stay because I enjoy the friendships I have made & the interactions with some of the people here who either massage my brain or tickle my funny bone. To me, Sploofus has just become another one of my email & instant message programs.

I think we should be able to hook up our webcams to Sploofus and make it even more interactive.

My comment was made at the tone of the inquiry, not the inquiry itself. "Hey Justin, what's going on with BETA? Inquiring minds want to know!" would not have prompted my retort. Stuff like "damn tired of un-kept promises", is quite literally whining.

I love the fact that apparently I have (like Calvin) duplicated myself into more than one, now I'm "folks", gonna find the rest of me(s) and have them do my housework, while this me plays on the puter.

Jeremy (Stout) secretly loves me and is just insanely jealous that I didn't photoshop his face onto the guy's head.

Where's the link to the sexual innuendos thread?

And lastly, from my favorite Monty Python Movie

"Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the light side of life

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That's the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life,

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...

Always look on the bright side of death,
Just before you draw your terminal breath.

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life."

Me.

Ihave to ditto what the Doctor wrote.

Bottom line is, if we don't like something, only we have to power to change it. So for those who are truly unhappy, feel free to not renew. Take a sabbatical. If you find you miss it, please come back!

This isn't written in the spirit of meanness or sarcasm or anything else. But think about it: If you don't like a particular restaurant you don't patronize it. If you're unhappy with your ISP you change to a different one. This is simple stuff, and I'm surprised that with all the super-intelligence I see from people on this site people don't seem to get it.

I am responsible for my own happiness. I choose to be happy and I stay away from those things that make me stressed or unhappy.

Blessings,

Sheri Ras.

I happen to like the Sploofus Family and proud of being part of it,nothing was mentioned about that in my post.It is really sad though when a person can't speak their mind without someone jumping in and twisting it just so they can diss people.I simply was lookung for feedback on the ever elusive games,as they say, there is always one to mess it up and the thing i find most amusing is the "downers" only come out to stir the pot. You never see a post from them when all is good.

I for one have no patience for the "hit and run" people,it is very difficult to display emotion on a comp as you know.I did my best with the post and as far as i am concerned if you dont like what i wrote don't reply to it,simple as that. I am open to being critized but there ia a way to do it without being rude. As far as it being an elephant around my neck, better than a skunk.

In my presence, at least in the past, chick pretends to be the militant feminist and I pretend to be the misogynist, which is why I directed my comments at chick and chick alone. My statement was made mostly in jest. However, if there was a kernel of truth in my statement, it is my opinion that men tend to be physical in their violence whereas women tend to be verbal, inflicting emotional pain instead of physical pain. I won't apologize for that opinion, just as I wouldn't expect a woman (and I hear it all the time) to apologize who claims that men are more aggressive and "violent" than women. It's just an opinion, and we all have them. I tend to think women and men have the same urges only they express them in different ways. If you did read though, I was talking to chick. I can tell you I don't hate women, so I don't qualify under one meaning of the word. Take care- Stout

It's typical when things are good, people forget to compliment - that's why there are "complaint" departments...but how often do you see "compliment departments"? Almost all the same letters

While I too, want to see 2.0, and I've only been here a little over a year and don't know how things were in the beginning (except for the referral banner which badly needs to be updated as I can't use it for referrals because it is not accurate) - I enjoy sploofus - I enjoy the boards as well - it's always interesting to see what people have to say...gets the brain stirring

I think that when you don't tell the store proprietor your complaint, you aren't doing them a favor.

I haven't been here that long, but the people who have written check after check thinking 2.0 is imminent have a right to gripe and gripe louder over time. And the complacent sheep who want to shout them down, probably including some editors in disquise, should STHU. And I cleaned that up.

Since I'm not an editor, I know that Smaug is not talking to me (including some editors) - but I can say that I want 2.0 just as much as the next guy, and I'm no sheep (if Smaug WAS talking to me).

I don't know Justin well enough to know if 2.0 & it's almost a year later is a matter of "best laid plans" and all that - but I do know from the programming end - it's hard for me to believe that he pumped it up to get people excited without believing he was going to deliver - I COULD be wrong, but I don't think I am...those that hung out with him at Sploofus Philly would be better judges of that.

I think that updates on "where things stand" would be beneficial to Sploofus/Justin as a "company" and give those of us waiting a clue as to where things stand...but that's just me.

Not saying anything / updating seems to me to be the biggest issue, and giving a "State of Sploofus 2.0" report would be a good move. I have so many other things going on in my life, it's like the lightbulb just went off that it's almost April a year later - time does fly...

Maybe the editors can chime in and tell us what they think of 2.0, if they really are playing it!

I found the avatar in "My Photos" on my computer, must have downloaded it in an altered state sometime and don't remember. I was just asking if anyone had seen it on Sploofus or anywhere else, in case I was inadvertently misappropriating someone else's avatar. Monty Python is probably in my DNA by now, I've had friends with whom I could do entire Dead Parrot and Spanish Inquisition sketches. Mr Gumby is an old friend.

Hmm.. just read through this thread... "has been here since 2004, long enough to remember the teams, the gift certificates, the "sale" of the site to "Fugazi Games", including Justin's farewell."

Huh?

ive just done a search with google and apparently there were lottery draws, and the wager tokens were to challenge the person ahead of you on the leaderboard. as i said ive been on here since nov 04, and something rang a bell as i was reading the posts. google sploofus, and look down through the results, and its all there.

Justin,

If Beta 2.0 is completed this week, do you have any idea how long the editors will be testing it before it is available to the ones of us who registered on April 15, 2007? Just an approximate idea would be good.

Thanks,
Marilyn...

My confusion is not over the games, prizes etc. but the mention of the sale of the site and Justin's "Farewell"

Where, Lisa, did you hear anything about the sale of the site or Justin's farewell? I was just going by the last post Justin made in this thread. Is this just a rumor or have I missed something?

I found it Lisa! Thanks! I think all of that transpired before I joined in 2006, and I guess I forgot about reading it. I'm still hopeful but just wondering how long before the Editors would get it, and then how long before the rest of us who registered would be able to have access to it. According to Justin's post on the 18th it would have been completed this past week. Just an estimate would be good.
