Boy, you stay on message like a freaking parrot.

Linda, don't you think if I gave a f#$% about promoting my quizzes and getting "points", I would have written more than 9 in 8 months? So quit being the pathetic rule nanny of the message content a TRIVIA CHAT BOARD. That is so pathetic that it should be an iconic dictionary example for pathos.

This thread is about this -- I'd like to see and take other people's favorite forgotten quizzes.

This is a fun idea - I don't have any quiz to add to the list, but I like the idea of giving quizzes a second look since everyone is talking about how sometimes their quizzes don't stay on the most recent board even a day.

Lodi, your hometown quiz WAS good and if anyone hasn't taken it yet, they should go do so. i've taken Smaug's quiz on famous people epileptic quiz, which was interesting. Definitely worth a second look.

When you mention your quiz, please include a link to make it easier to find and take the quiz. Sometimes it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Where will I find yours, Jeremy?

Like Smaug, I don't write tons of quizzes, but now have two EA's which I'm thrilled with - the first one I finally wrote that I thought was EA worth didn't get one, but of those who have taken it, I've had several messages that thought that it was EA worthy - So I put it on my own SAG list (like the Screen Actors Guild only Spoofus Addicts Guild) and made my own The comments from the takers meant alot!

Maybe I should stay on topic!! The quiz I listed I only put up there because it hadn't been played in a year, not because it is EA worthy. The only quiz I ever recieved feedback about that it should have recieved an EA was my quiz on Stephen King's the Shining. I assume it didn't because it was a work of popular fiction and not some high-brow novel...I'm guessing. So, this is the link.

Feel free to ignore my other quiz, Smaug played it and Salzy played it, so it can sit for another year now.

OK - I'll play. Awhile back, I wrote a series of Fads quizzes. Fads of the 1950s, 1960s, etc. They all got EAs (thank you Editors!) except for the poor 1980s quiz. It's feeling left out, so if you are into the 1980s, give it a go:

I guess one has to expect some quizzes out of 300 or so won't get too many takers. I was disappointed when an EA quiz about Alma Mahler got less than 30 takers.
All the other three quizzes came in at less than 30 takers while getting rated at more than 8...so those who took 'em liked'em.

Garrybl, I took your quiz on stutterers and was amazed it had not received an EA. Excellent quiz.

I put a lot of time and effort into this quiz and I had hoped it would get an EA; it didn't. I have had a couple 'old-timers' e-mail me tips on some improvements to make in writing quizzes but I haven't had time to write any since then. Maybe it will improve my odds.

I went and looked at my quizzes that had received 8+ ratings that were not EA's
I thought this one might have been close, but didn't think I'd get one and I didn't
Historic Women of the Old West
http://www.sploofus.com/triviaquiz/historic_women_of_the_old_west.html
But I've gotten some very nice comments - but no "Should have gotten an EA" like the Hoax quiz.

My other one I don't think in any way was EA worthy - but was the first one I wrote on 2/2/2007 called - Do you really know Aerosmith? Not posting the link because I don't really think it was EA worthy - just fun and am thrilled with the fact that it's rated over an 8 - but has had only 54 takers.

The ones that I write that are about music & movies are the ones that get the takers...with "One Word Movie Titles That Start With "B"" being my top taken puzzle at 769 - waiting for one that gets 1000

What would you say the average rating for a quiz is? I saw where someone is happy if theirs is rated over an 8...is this a general consensus? I have only written one quiz and it has an average of 7.9 even though only one of the 48 who took it got over 70%. Is this normal?

Well, we've thrashed this before , but here is my example.

I've written ten quizzes. All have had under 100 takers, so the sample isn't great. Six were EAs and the lowest rating on any of them was 8.71. As I understand it, the lowest rating you CAN give an EA quiz is 7, there is no 1-9 scale. So ineffect, when talking quiz ratings, it is two categories, EAs and non-EAs, because the ratings are apples and oranges.

Of my other four quizzes, the high is 8.15, the low is 7.52. I also have one at 7.99 that I really wish someone would take and give a good grade too

Anyway, from my experience, a non-EA quiz with a rating over 8 is pretty rare.

Don't know - I've writte alot over the past year but more what most might call fluff, because it does give me points and takers - plus I flat out enjoy movies & music...but here are my over 8 non EA's and my two EA's stats - I have only one that is under 7 which I don't think deserves it in the least - on Supernatural - one of my favorite TV shows (when I get to watch it) - I'm sure those that took the quiz just aren't fans - because it's detailed...hence the "6.something" - but the rest of them are in the 7 ranges...

Non EA's
11/11/07 Historic Women of the Old West [68] 8.11
04/26/07 1990 - 2007 Hoaxes - Did You Believe It? [94] 8.21
05/20/07 Kaelin's Eugene the Jeep Quiz [23] 8.29 - Community Quiz
07/05/07 Joan Crawford - What Is The Movie? [29] 8.05
05/14/07 Mondegreens - Misheard Song Lyrics [62] 8.02
02/05/07 Do you really know Aerosmith? [54] 8.11

EA's
01/03/08 Strange Sports Around the World [35] 8.73
09/25/07 Whose Phobia is it Anyway? [84] 8.76

bigbird

OK, I looked at my stats. I have written 205 quizzes, and 31 of them received EAs. Of the non-EA quizzes, only 33 of them have ratings above 8.0, while all the EA quizzes are above 8.0. My average rating is 7.9. AND, for what it's worth, I have one single quiz sitting with a 9.0 rating.

The stats don't mean a whole lot though, as many of those quizzes were written before the scoring rubric changed - it used to be harder to get a high score. I also do not write music quizzes, tv quizzes or movie quizzes, as I know nothing about any of those things, and I think that those are the quizzes that seem to do the best.

I do think it is interesting that almost all my CQs have ratings above 8.0 even though none of them can be EAs. Not quite sure what that means.

I think that the CQ quiz writers and takers support each other, understand the effort that is taken to produce the quizzes, and judge accordingly - but that's just MO - My Black Dahlia Community quiz WAS in the 8's - but it looks like some degenerates got in and took it and lowered me below the 8. mark

It has never been difficult to get a high score on a EA quiz-scoring skewed that way. Think EAs bring out the snob in some people. We all have the desire to learn , but for me to take some quizzes would be suicidal on my part-any music one for sure. I, like most folk, like to anticipate at least a decent score. Some EAs are on topics that unless you have done research on them or that happens to be your field, you are bound to score horrible and look ignorant. Some folks would rather die than write a quiz in the popular areas of music TV or movies let alone take them-then they decry the fact that their quizzes aren't very popular-write about what folks like. Sometimes as people have shown this can be with word play or a cleverly thought out title. Other than very few folks my quizzes are made popular by the "silent majority"-meaning not the usual people who post in Chat-they seem to have their own special little group to give each other "pats" regularly-Linda

OF the about 70 quizzes I have written as Heidi ALL are in some way about TV or movies. If they are not 8 or above-they are very close to eight-none as Heidi are EAs. My overall rating is 7.869. I have tried to make them a bit of a challenge but easy enough for folkms to be succesful-never including dates nor number which I believe might only belong on a history or perhaps science quiz. I feel fortunate that folks seem to like them and I thank them for taking and the kind comments-Linda

I just started a kind of zen like response Linda, but realized it's not going to be very zen

You are regularly on the most popular list (5 at the time I'm writing this message). I'm not sure that I understand the point here in a thread specific about quizzes that we felt might have deserved EA's. It's not like there is ANY danger of 484 people going to take each of the quizzes that are listed here and knocking you out of one of your positions...most people are NOT going to take these quizzes...I do when I have time - because I like learning something new. Who sees my score anyway but the owner - and I've NEVER seen anyone come post on the board "HA HA so & so took my quiz and made a 30% -- lets call them stupid".

I don't think that ANYONE who writes a difficult and challenging quiz expects the majority to take them, and the goal for doing such IS to acheive an EA.

As I said, I turn out quizzes I enjoy on movies & music - because I know that they will get takers - but I also like to challenge MYSELF by researching and creating a quiz on a unique topic that doesn't have 500 other quizzes just like it or similar to it. I certainly don't consider that to be snobby.

As for the people that you think are snobs - I don't get that at all. How many threads are there like this one - I've quite enjoyed it. I don't take a lot of quizzes for the simple fact that they are all SO much alike and I for one appreciated this thread, and I think a few others did too - and they are NOT snobs.

The patting on the back - regularly - I just don't get that at all - maybe I'm hanging out on the wrong board - because in here, which is the place I frequent most often, usually the topics relate to the WP of the day, humor, and something else that at least challenges my brain to think.

I'm not trying to be mean...(which I see alot of posting on as well when someone disagrees with you, or puts out their opinion) - and was impressed when you retracted your posting jumping down on Smaug when he started this thread.

This last post seemed like a backhanded way of calling all of us that are participating in this thread, throwing out the quizzes they thought deserved an EA on the carpet for being self-promoting and self-congratulatory - and I don't see that in any way shape or form.

Perhaps, I'm just tired and cranky, and am misreading your post completely - but after reading it 4 times, that's still what I got...

No, EAs deserve credit for the effort involved but am not sure the current scoring system is fair. Some folks who have posted here HAVE listed other's percentages-for that reason will not even attempt that person's quizzes-many many peopled like and do well on music quizzes but they do not on old castles in Europe Those kind must be written for the satisfaction of the writing, In fairness, I have never hear a complaint from that person)s). I just believe people must understand this is a game and not a college course where they are the instructor-Linda

Wow Linda - I sure must have missed that because I've never seen anyone post others percentages except in the case of a couple of people who were flying through extremely difficult quizzes in a matter of seconds & scoring 100's -- I've never seen a thread making fun of someone for scoring low - I've seen some people post their own percentage - but that's it.

But I've only been here a year, and there are lots of posts...I've just not seen one...

One last thing -- so sorry but I left it out.

In terms of quizzes you would not take, that's great for you - you make a choice. But for people to TAKE difficult quizzes and give them bad scores because they did not do well - that's always been the big gripe - as I reread my post above yours, I realized that maybe by saying degenerates, I possibly sounded snobby - but didn't mean to - I was stating a fact, not looking down my nose at someone - so I'll try to come up with a better word than degenerate (I knew it was bad when I posted it).

Let me try:

If you take a quiz on a subject matter you know nothing about, do badly and tank it, then you are a .... well, um, No - degenerate still seems to be the nicest word I can think of that is fit for posting.

I took Stout's quiz on "The Shining" when it first came out-don't remember but do not believe I scored all that well as read the book ages ago but did not score it low as his questions were fair=will take a quiz like that as i did Bird's on bottled water and many that Lymnn writes-she's good and makes you want to know. Never feels like she is trying to stump you or make you feel ignorant. Have taken several of Garrbl's too although sometimes I am at a loss as to how his mind works. Guess I just do not understand the "highbrow" individual that seeks out and takes only the EAS-Linda

Back to the subject of EA's/popularity/takers - when I went and looked at the most popular board, I saw this:
Memories Are Made of This! Surreyman 2/21/08 8 161

Surreyman's received an EA - has an 8 and 161 takers plus being on most popular - way to go -

I never said EAs are NEVER popular-some really deserve it like Surreyman's and SuzanneC to name just a couple. There are some but do not believe you will find many EAS in popular music, movies, and TV. Perhaps editors get sick at looking at the slew of them. Everyone is entitled to opinions and all I have done is express mine-so shoot me!!

Al of this wrangling really doesn't mean much-the facts speak for themselves. TV, movies, and pop music are the favorite categories of takers. You can write in hopes of getting an EA or write to be on the popular list-it happens but odds are you won't achieve both-just rather tired of people complaining about lack of takers when they write on a subject which is not terribly familiar to most or has a wealth of difficult questions seemingly designed to trip people up (Or perhaps certain folks are just so much smarter than the average)-you take your chances-Linda

Linda - that was not a slam on your opinion - good gosh - it was information - I VERY rarely see EA's on the popular board, and since part of this discussion has been about statistics and popularity of EA's, this one was out of the norm - don't have my gun out so no shooting today.

On another note, I've taken several of the quizzes listed here already and enjoyed them quite a bit. If I had not seen them listed here, I probably would not have found them - I immensely enjoyed Smaug's Epilepsy quiz - and Lodi's hometown quiz was great as well - The fad's quiz was great fun although I was a little disturbed I knew them LOL - never considered myself to be a "faddish" person - wish I had done better on Stout's The Shining quiz - only got a 70% but it had been a while since I read the book - The Crappulence Quiz was a hoot - I'm making my way through the rest

Trying to set an unenviable record for 'least taken EA quiz'.
Don Juan made it at 4 pm and was gone later that day.... musta caught the rush hour.
an unimpressive 9 takers.....
Sigh.

I can't believe my Wild West quiz didn't get an award, then again, maybe I am the only one that likes it
