MONOPOLY COMPETITION

Monopoly is holding a worldwide contest to select cities to be listed on a global version of the game. Rather amusing way to spend a few minutes.

From the Wall Street Journal:
----
So much for houses and hotels. In an online contest to select names for a new Monopoly board game, "Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition," the word "Israel" was eliminated after the city of Jerusalem amid complaints from pro-Palestinian groups and bloggers, toymaker Hasbro said Thursday. Israel considers the whole of Jerusalem to be its capital, while Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as the capital of a future state. The Pawtucket, R.I.-based company has apologized for the controversy and pulled all country names from cities listed on the site. An employee based in London made the call on her own to pull "Israel" from the site, after hearing complaints, said a Hasbro spokesman. "It was a bad decision, one that we rectified relatively quickly,'' he said. "This is a game. We never wanted to enter into any political debate. We apologize to our Monopoly fans," said spokesman Wayne Charness.

Thanks, Kaufman
I did not hear about that issue. Poo! I hate that issue with a passion.

Yay for Jerusalem. I voted for it also. Drats! I hope the others realize there is NO country named Palestine.

I won a free copy of the eMonopoly edition that was created the same way with people voting on national landmarks. It is the same, fine game, but the choices that made the border leave a LOT!!!!!!!!! to be desired.
