OK, let me start by saying that I was absolutely floored by the Best Actress win by Marion Cotillard (who?)!!! It's been years since I was that far off. I didn't even think she was worth mentioning in my Oscar Picks!

The opening of the show was fun (Oscar Delivery Truck). Jon Stewart is always funny to me and he especially tickled me with his Vanity Fair Oscar Party joke. "Vanity Fair has decided not to have it's annual party in support of the writers who were on strike. Maybe it would be more supportive if they actually invited some writers to their annual Oscar party." Slam!

The Winners:
Javier Bardem looked very handsome and the end of his acceptance speech (in Spanish to his mom) was very sweet. They showed her in the audience and Tommy Lee Jones leaned over and patted her. Nice.

Tilda Swinton won Best Supporting Actress. I give myself 1/2 point for her, as I wanted her to win but thought Amy Adams would win. Tilda looked absolutely horrible. Was she trying to make some kind of statement by wearing no makeup? None? Her face was so shiny they probably had to dim the lights on her to stop the reflection. I saw her in the audience and kept wondering who she was. Her speech was funny, though.

Best Actor was Daniel Day-Lewis. Probably deserved. But what was with his earrings? They looked heavy, they were way too big. It was like he was wearing them on a bet or a dare. Not attractive.

I loved that Diablo Cody won for Best Original Screenplay for Juno! She rocks!

Best Picture was No Country for Old Men. Well deserved!

The Show:
I enjoyed the past 80 years of Oscars they presented throughout the show. They showed the past 79 Best Picture Winners and I have seen 70 of them. 71 if you count last night's winner. The "writerless" salutes to "Binoculars & Periscopes" and "Bad Dreams" was funny. I found most of the songs boring except for Raise It Up with the Harlem Choir and the winner, Falling Slowly. Jon Stewart was very funny. He is definitely in the running to take over my David Letterman crush someday. I guess when Dave dies. Or retires.

General Observations:

There were alot of red dresses last night! And, they were all beautiful! Helen Mirren won best dressed again. Gorgeous. All the pregnant women (Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Alba) looked fabulous. Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Hudson both looked very classy. The Rock actually made me laugh during his presentation of Best Special Effects.

Here's what really made me happy: Everyone seemed to have received my memo on no gum chewing in the audience except Johnny Depp. He's such a rebel!

One thing I forgot to mention in my Oscar picks. My friend Missy planned a girls night at the movies to see 27 Dresses. She said she would pay the admission for anyone who actually wore a bridesmaid dress to the movies and our friends Nikki and Caryn did! I am so blessed to have friends like that!

Until next year,

Oh, but did you SEE "La Vie en Rose"? Marion Cotillard was really wonderful. She is the one I thought should win, but I held out little hope because I thought it was the most-likely-not-to-have-been-seen film in the bunch. I loved it. It's available on Netflix already for rental or instant download.

Yes, I saw it and thought she was very good. I just didn't think she'd win.

It was a decent awards show wasn't it. Nothing horrendously tasteless happened. Nice mix of doling out the awards almost evenly, lol. Something for everyone.
Liked Stewart, always do. I get nervous though when he cracks wise with an older generation person and I feel like, "Uh oh I don't think they get it..." Something like that happened in the beginning I forget with who...he was talking all gansta-rap-like and make a joke to someone and I thought, "Oh no they're going to think he's being threatening!!" lololol. I forget , something like that. But he's great. Loved when he brought out the Czech woman who won Best Song so she could have her moment. Very sweet and classy move.

Has the puddle on the floor been explained yet? The one that Colin Farrell almost spun out on? I didn't realize it, but on the Jimmy Kimmel show after the Oscars, they showed footage that we didn't see, and John Travolta almost slipped on it, and so almost did another actress. Yikes.

I kicked myself for not picking Tilda Swinton in my Oscar pool. I thought she was the best but didn't think she'd win, so I went with Amy Adams. cripes. Hate when that happens.

I wish I had picked Tilda too, Bill. I didn't know about the spot on the floor except with Colin Ferrell. Then I just supposed it was some drunken mirage. I wish I had stayed up and watched Jimmy Kimmel, but I was done. Speaking of Jimmy Kimmel, have you seen the Sarah Silverman/Matt Damon video? I laughed so hard. Matt Damon has this sweet face, so when he's being crude it just makes it funnier. It's on YouTube. For Adults Only.

Oops, I meant Amy Ryan not Amy Adams.

Oh no, but Leah now you're really going to kick yourself for not staying up for Kimmel. Not only did he show the sarah Silverman/Matt Damon video, he showed his right-back-at-ya video!
It starred Kimmel and Ben Affleck! I Figure it's gotta be somewhere on Youtube by now. It's pretty unbelievable the people they got to be in it.

I haven't seen the Ben Affleck video yet but I still have the Matt Damon song stuck in my head. I sing it frequently.
