IDOL

Ok, you knew it was coming.

Self-proclaimed reality freak here.

BOYS: Micheal Johns (dreamy and holy bejessus pay to see him in about 5 seconds). David Cook, Nice and Nice again.

David Archuletta, cute kid. Jason C, rounds out my top 4

GIRLS: Carly, Brooke, Ramiele and AMANDA. LOVE THE ROCKERS.

Been expecting this from you since the show started again!

After doing Hallelujah (and grinning a little less...he was starting to look cheesy), Jason is my absolute favorite. Love that song, love his version, and planning to download it soon.

David C is second, but still amazing.

Amanda is the only other one I REALLY like. She was smokin' last night!

That was Kristy Lee Cook. She is a local girl and I think she can do much better than we have seen so far. I can't seem to make up my mind on the guys. I think I like Jason but David is a cute kid and seems to be able to keep up with the big boys. I agree, that GO GO
is now gone. I couldn't have taken much more of that.

Ok, on to last night.

John Lennon is rolling over in his grave. Kristy Lee Cook needs to go NOW! I have never seen anything that horrible in my whole life, and that includes my own singing.

Also my chopping block: David H, Syesha and Ramiele (like watching paint dry last night).

Positives: Michael Johns (did ya expect anything less from me), David Cook (WOW) and Jason (love those eyes) Castro. Girls: Carly, Brooke and Amanda (so/so)

FLOP OF THE NIGHT: David (little cutie)A. How in the name of GOD do you profess to be a singer then have the audacity on national television to admit you don't know the Beatles? THEN proceed to forget the lyrics. SHAME SHAME SHAME. He won't go home, too many teenage girls voting for him.

WOW OF THE NIGHT: Chikezie...who knew he had that in him, blew me away.

Me.

Chick...I'm an Idol nut too. I agree about David A. I still think he can win, but I was also shocked he didn't know about the Beatles. I guess being 17 does have its drawbacks. He's just so so cute and does have a great voice and personality. Chikezie really was a surprise. I was out last night for pub trivia, so I TIVO'd it and didn't get to vote. Tonight should be interesting. I just hope David A isn't sent home!

I like David A enough, but honestly his stage presence is really lacking. As a perfomer, I would guess that he would have SOME idea of the history of pop music, which MUST include the Beatles. Never admit it, he really disappointed me with that.

Taking his age into consideration, Jason C is only 3 years older, he knew, appreciated and embraced the genre.

Kristy was in the bottom three tonight but it was David H. that left. I agree that country twist on 8 days a week was BAD. I have to say that Amanda is my favorite and Jason's eyes are to die for. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

Lisa, You're right. That happens a lot. The judges give mixed messages. They tell the singers to take a risk, and when it doesn't work...oops! OR, they say the arrangement was bad...oops! I'm wondering how much control the singer has over the arrangement. For the ones who already are in bands or play their own instruments, I can see them directing the arrangement. But in this case, I'm not sure how much Kristy did with the arrangement other than to tell them the tempo (which I think the fast tempo was more the mistake) and to make it sound country...just my two cents.

As a country afficianado, there's a difference between going country and going Hee-Haw.

Plus, the tempo on that rendition of "8 Days a Week" was beyond frenetic. Kinda like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia on the Orange Blossom Special."

I'm glad they're at least giving her another week to find a middle path of country.

Has anyone noticed David A. licking his lips between every phrase? If you haven't, you will now. Reminds me of Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie. There's something really phony about that kid. I don't like him. He has an over the top, Melinda Doolittle false modesty going on. Love Jason, Brooke, and Michael Johns. Loved Amanda during the auditions...kind of bored with her now. Wondering how she's going to her Janis Joplin imitation during "Songs from South Pacific" week. (Not a real week for all of you literalists out there).

My boys did well tonight. Don't understand the Michael bashing, but we all know I'm COMPLETELY BIASED. David A and Jason did great. Thought they were WAY too hard on David C, cause I LOVED IT. Chikeze, the irony is it's my son's fave song since he was 3, hated everything about it.

Girls...ok, they can all go except Carly, Amanda (I'm even getting a tad bored with her, she needs to mix it up) and Brooke.

Don't know if any of you watched Oprah Monday but Simon Cowell was her guest. Of course they talked about American Idol and then turned to Opraph's new show The Big Giveaway.

Long story cut short, here's a link to what Simon did. The emotion does not show through in the written piece, but this little girl would melt your heart if you would have seen the segment.

Yeah, we counted and David only licked his lips 8 times. He sticks it out there pretty far when he does it, too. Is that a subliminal thing? I'm crazy about Jason. Love the dreds, the eyes and the eyelashes! And he can sing. He just seems pretty down to earth.
I'm totally bored with Amanda. Love Brooke, but she really shouldn't move. She is quite awkward. I thought Carly was great, too.
I love having DVR. I only listen to half of Randy, NONE of Paula, and I usually agree with Simon, though I think he was a little harsh tonight.
Ms. Cook will be going home tomorrow. I think she is a nice girl with a nice voice, but she wasn't ready for this!

Not to denigrate the show you love, but I walked into the living room to see what I thought was a comedy sketch, the girl's rendition of the song was SO-O-O-O horrendous, only to discover it was this show. Fortunately I was able to grab a nearby fireplace shovel and render myself unconscious before I was fatally injured. The doctors said my sight and hearing should return in a few day, which is typical with hysterical blindness and deafness.

My programming partner lives in Minnesota and he had sent me that info yesterday on Simon. I know there is lots that don't like him, but I do. There is no doubt that he is tough on people, and although sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't, these people are still getting opportunities that others never get, and are facing the criticism where the world can see them. Most people attempting to break into the business don't get ANYONE to hear them and only get their heartbreaking rejection. Even when they don't make the top 10 or win the contest, they wind up with opportunities they never would have had...just MO.

If the worst treatment these kids ever get in show business is from Simon, they'll be in great shape. It's a mean business. Heat, meet kitchen.

I do think he's crueler than he needs to be sometimes, but that's his schtick, it's expected and probably demanded of him.

At least he's British. We're USED to them being snotty to us.

In my opinion Simon is doing what he has to do. If all the judges were like Paula, these kids would think they had hope when they didn't and would waste their lives pursuing a career that was never going to happen. Simon tells it like it is and hopefully most of these people will get on with their lives.

I agree with your take, Michael J was on tonight, Carly was not her best, but she is such a talent, David C is consistent week after week, a strong contender, didn't like David A's song, never heard it, but his singing was ok by me, I love Brooke as well, just her and the piano may have been a bit better, Jason C was great, he isn't mainstream at all but that's what I love about him( and his looks....well!) I still don't like Ramiele and Syesha is getting better.
I go each year to see the final 10 in concert, they play in Atlantic City, it's a good group this year, should be a fun show.

Bottom 3, not so good for me. Big Jason C fan.

Chikeze, while he had moments of greatness, the thing he like to do the most (ballads) bored me to tears. He was never gonna be the next Idol, so sad, but not so sad.

But why was Ramiele not in the bottom 3? She honestly was bad this week...and last week, and the week before. I'm not even getting into the whole Christy thing, she's SO out of her league.

Love Michael...

David C. totally gave me chills last night. He's awesome -- a genuine talent! He seems like a really nice guy as well. I'd buy last night's song if it were available -- loved it!

I've got a bit of a crush on Jason -- love his eyes and demeanor and dreads -- when he's good he's really good.

Little David has the Sanjaya groupies in his corner. He does seem to be a sweet and talented kid, but he's a bit naive when it comes to song selection. My 14-year-old and her friends are all in love with him. Think he'll be around a while.

The boys far outshine the girls this year as a whole. Carly is the best of the females, but I still don't see a star personality in her. I think David C. may be this year's winner, although I reserve the right to change that prediction in the coming shows.

I think Christy oughta go home soon. She's not a bad singer, but she really seems to be trying her best to come up with that power song that just ain't happenin'. To me, David the rocker is about the best and original one they have, much like another rocker who went home too soon 2 years ago. Of course, I don't think he's complaining too much these days!!

Interesting that Carly said she wasn't pregnant, she squashed those rumors! Bottom three was strange, Syesha sang well, not one of my favorites but she's coming on, I guess the voters aren't mad for her.
I think Jason got some cold water splashed in his face, he just realized he needs to get more serious.
Carly is the best female and Brooke is hanging right in there with her. She should just do the Laura Nyro thing and sit at a piano, no dancing, no twirling.
Michael J and David C. are both awesome, they each have a nice future ahead.
Christi really should go home but Chikezie was close on her heels, I was just surprised she wasn't in the bottom three.
If David A. is picking his own songs, he should ask for help, he's been choosing poorly. He has a phenonmenal voice, I just don't see him as an American Idol.

I guess David A. has a "stage daddy" who, when David was on Star Search, was banned from the set for trying to intimidate other contestants. Simon, I believe, was referring to that when he said he would be very surprised if David picked that song himself. I've gotta start voting, 'cuz I can't bear to see Jason C. in the bottom 3 this early. Want to look at him for a few more weeks. Yum!

Am I alone in thinking that David A. is highly overrated? I did hear something about his dad being overbearing though and did feel kind of sorry for him. He's just not in the same league as the other singers to me, as well as Kristi Cook. Does David A. have a lisp? Not a hater, I'm just sayin.

I kind of get the idea that he's been trotted out all of his life. Makes you wonder if he's ben allowed to have any life of his own or choices he's thought of himself. His wonder at the hooopla isn't disengenuous, he's been sheltered. He's only been 17 a few months and if he breaks out of himself in a few years he could be awesome. Don't think he'll win this year cause he's lacking the presence of an Idol. Although never underestimate the young girls and their voting power!

Well I have to confess, I am AI junkie.

Here's my take (to date):

First and foremost... thank GOD that disgusting Janis Joplin wannabe "woman" with the black and white hair is gone! YAY!

Brooke W: Yawn!!!
Carly S: Annoying
Chikezie: Nice guy, but sedating. C YA!
David Archuleta: I call him the "Awww Shucks Kid" - hope he gets voted off REAL soon!
David C: Entertaining
Jason C: I hope he wins
Kristy C: That's one bull legged gal
Michael J: Entertaining
Ramiele: Umm... HOW is she even on AI?
Syesha: Better off doing tampax ads again

Just an opinion!

Pretty much agree except for Brooke. I find her very appealing and natural. David A. is so overrated, but as long as 14 year old girls can vote, he's gonna be around awhile. Would love to see Jason win! Have I mentioned that before?

OK everyone, don't let Jason down tonight. You can still do your wr/wm and vote. I haven't actually voted before but I don't want that cutie to be in the bottom three again this week. Will probably have to vote for David C and Michael also. I'm going to give tivo 20 minutes so I don't have to listen to Paula.

Carly was super, she sang in such a contolled and powerful manner. Michael and David C are ALWAYS great. David C's hair looks much better! Jason was improved over last week, hope he's not in the bottom, voted for him this week and I don't vote 'til the end usually. I just love Brooke, she's so natural. David A. was more improved, nasty rumors about his dad, a shame, he's just a kid. Will it be Kristie this week? She's dodged it so far, I think her number is up.

I hated Dolly Partons hair, I thought she wore wigs. Wonder if it was her own?

For me, Michael and David Cook are the two most original and entertaining on Idol this year. The other David, Brooke, and a couple of others are talented and can sing, but not as entertaining and memorable. After Daughtry didn't win two seasons ago (not that he's hurting..HA HA), who knows how it will turn out.

But....Idol has GOT to step up with some better themes! What is up with this choices of themes this year? What's it going to be next week...Boy Bands tributes?? Bringing back Britney? Polka Pizazz? How about letting the public vote on themes? Apparently the ones who work for Idol are running out of ideas....fast.

April 2nd News Headline (For Real):

'Idol' Cook Hospitalized After Performance
Singer Suffered Heart Palpitations, High Blood Pressure, Report Says

"American Idol" contestant David Cook experienced heart palpitations and high blood pressure Tuesday, leading to a brief hospitalization, according to TMZ.com.

Cook was apparently not feeling well during the day, the site said, and his condition worsened after his performance.

He was driven to the hospital after medics on the show determined that his blood pressure was "far too high," TMZ said. Cook was reportedly treated with medication for his high blood pressure and released.

An "Idol" executive told TMZ that Cook has been stressed out over the worsening condition of his brother, who is battling cancer.

Of the people who are left:

Brooke: I think she's talented, and I like her personality, but she's still too rough around the edges for me. With hard work, I could see her becoming really good in a few years.

Carly: I think she has a beautiful voice and is the strongest female contender left. I thought it was cruel of Simon to make that crack about her appearance on live TV. I believe him that he was trying to be helpful, but he could have said something to her privately. Hopefully, though, the experience will help her develop a thicker skin, since she'll need one for coping with the entertainment business.

David A.: I really like this kid and think he has a terrific voice. I don't find him the least bit boring. In many ways, I think he's growing up too fast (or trying to), so I actually hope he doesn't win. But I think he's a tremendous natural talent. Not as versatile yet as I'd like to see, but definitely gifted musically.

David C: I think he's going to win. I'm surprised he doesn't already have a recording contract. He has the voice, looks, charisma and maturity to be a star. And it doesn't hurt that he can play the guitar as well.

Jason C: He seems nice, but his singing just doesn't do anything for me at all.

Kristy Lee C.: She seems like a nice person, but she just doesn't have what it takes at this level. I could see her succeeding as a singer someday, but I think she needs a lot more practice.

Michael J: Along with David A. and David C., I think he'll end up in the top three. I like him a lot. Carly might possibly edge him out and be in the top three.

Syesha M: She seems nice, but she just bores me.

Jason could just stand there and not sing a note and I'd throw a couple of votes his way. I love his quietly charismatic personality, gorgeous eyes and stage presence. David C. may very well win the whole shebang, but he was not as hot tonight as usual. Maybe he still hasn't recovered from his illness of last week. It's between those two in my book.

I didn't care for Jason C's song. But he's my favorite.

Here's something Kelly will hate - after watching Idol, my husband says "that Australian dude has to go." Personally I think Kristy Cook needs to go. Even if tonight was a better night for her, she just doesn't do anything for me. There's a million blonde-haired, blue-eyed country singers who are better than her, by far, and she just doesn't offer anything unique.

I didn't get to see all of it tonight, but of the ones I did see, they were all okay, but not as good as last week. Carly pushed her song way too much, and taking on a Queen song has usually proved to be a bad choice since the originals were so good. David Cook went way too low key for his style. Jason stayed in his element, which will get him through easily. David A. did a great job....but he still just don't WOW me that much. Brooke did her usual style, and I like her, but I think her time is limited. I only got to see the snippets of the others. I still think the best run for a top 3 at this point is the two Davids, and Michael. Jason is becoming more of a possibility as the weeks go on. I like Carly, but she's got to quit trying to nail that 'big' song, and do her style more.

But of course, this is just my opinions.....and as they say......

I've always loved the version of Over the Rainbow that Jason did, loved Jason doing it. He was favorite this week. David C. is one of my favorites but I didn't like his performance at all. I doubt it will hurt him. He's too solid. Michael is really powering through this. I love Carly's voice, hated her choice of song. David A. sang well as usual but I just can't see him as an American Idol. Brooke seems a little frightened, she has a wonderful voice and should be able to continue after Idol is over. She's wearing her heart on her sleeve and it's so endearing.

I disagree about David A. I think he is the perfect AI. We know he's already used to doing just the very thing an AI does - go around to different venues making appearances and of all the singers, he probably fits their profile the most. I love Jason and David Cook but when I think of them standing there singing those icky sappy songs they always make the winner sing, I just shudder. With the balloons and the confetti and the song about how their life sucked up until this point and now all of their dreams have come true, blah blah blah. It would be much better for them to get this exposure and then go on to make their own music like Chris Daughtry, than be confined to the Idol ideal & schedule. It would be perfect for David A.

I truly thought he would win it. Goes to show that when folks think someone is safe they ought to vote, he probably got caught in something like that. I think he may have been thought of as a shoe-in and they voted for someone more vulnerable. He'll still have a career nevertheless, just sad not to see him each week, getting better, etc. All the contestants looked stunned, the three amigos weren't very happy either.

I was watching "Regis & Kelly" this morning, and Kelly Ripa was saying how shocked she was by Michael Johns being booted and that the judges seemed to be too. She mentioned about Ryan Seacrest starting with the line "Last year when we had Idol Gives Back, we didn't send anyone home...". She was waiting for him to say that they weren't this year either.

I wasn't a big fan of his, but he shouldn't have gone home this early. Kristy had a good night Tuesday but she should've been kicked off a looooong time ago. I can't believe she wasn't even in the bottom three! Or Brooke! She was so boring Tuesday. (I do really like her though. There's something very sweet about that mix of sincerity and awkwardness - especially when it causes her to try really hard to match her clothes to her songs. =)

In general the guys were so much more interesting than the women this year. Once the audience voting started I was sure a bunch of the women would drop like flies and leave the men to fight it out. I've only voted 3 times in all these years, but when there are situations like this I start thinking I should. If Jason and/or big David were gone and Kristy, Brooke and Syesha (great voice but she always picks dull songs) were still there, it'd be a really boring show.

Speaking of David - why, when he's standing next to Ryan, does it look like one of them is way out of proportion? Is it that Ryan is really, really tiny, or does David have an amazingly large head? There was the same thing going on when Ryan stood next to Jordin Sparks. It's always a little disconcerting.

Gotta believe folks didn't think he was in trouble, especially since he wasn never in the bottom 3 before...so they didn't vote.

That, of course, is how we end up with occasional election outcomes we have.

Then the folks who didn't vote complain about the outcome.

Just read over the whole thread and wanted to reply to Eesus's comments about the horror of someone like Jason or big David having to sing one of those awful final songs. I'm right there with you on that, except that I have a dream. I have a dream that someone with a unique style could actually win American Idol, and then actually make that final song palatable. Maybe it's farfetched, but imagine Jason in the spotlight with his guitar and his goofy-dreamy-stoned little smile, doing an acoustic version of whatever treacly hammer-over-the-head nonsense song they pick for the finale, and actually thinking to yourself "Hey - that didn't suck!"

I could happen.

I had to work this evening, so I missed the live performance...thank goodness for You Tube! Here are my 'opinions' on what I heard...

David A. - good job as usual, really has a vocal ability far beyond a guy who's only 17

Kristy Cook - she did okay, but I don't think she's got many more weeks left...but you never know with the voting...

Syesha - she's underrated by the judges because she takes on hard songs, but she really did a great job on her song tonight. She has the best vocal range of any of the ladies left...remember, just my opinion...

Brooke - she did a decent job...she has her own style, but I don't think she's got much more time left either. Of course, like Kristy, you never know. I still can't believe Michael Johns got voted off before Brooke or Kristy.

Carly - I like how she sings, and I think the judges give her a lot of criticism because they believe she's got more than she's not giving. I just have a hard time watching her sing...I mean, she looks like she is in some serious pain when she's getting to those higher notes. Her song tongiht I thought was pretty good, probably 2nd best for the ladies...

Jason - He did a nice style on his song. He sings good enough, I probably would never buy his CD's though. He just too vanilla for me, but he is one of the most original guys on the show.

David C. - He did the most original spin on a Mariah Carey song you could imagine. And of course, it was to me the best of the night. I still think he's the best on the show for his original performances.

Okay, there's my take on the show. At this point, I think David A., Jason, Syesha, and David C. would be the top half. Bottom 3 to me....Carly, Brooke, and Kristy. Kristy would go home.

I love reading how we all respond to this. I've loved Carly's voice from the start but something's holding her back from wowing us and it isn't her voice. She did a good job, not great. Sysesha always does a nice job, agree she chooses hard songs and pulls them off. David A -never heard that song, but his singing was topnotch; his personality doesn't wow me at all though. Brooke was sweet, she always is. Kristy is one dimensional, every song sounds country she can't sing any other way. She has a nice country voice though, I'm just not a fan. Jason was original and pretty good but David Cook was awesome, he started out a little shaky but really sold me by the end. Good show, all in all. Who will it be tonight? After last week, I'm not guessing!

Miss the responses of the Michael Johns fans who don't watch anymore!

I'm still silently protesting until someone sends me a shirtless picture of my new boyfriend. SIGH

My prediction? David Cook hands down. All the MJ fans are now going to relentlessly vote for David C. Last night was the first time I heard David A not win the "applause" contest.

The girls were just so/so. And Brooke was terrible.

And again, Jason C with that sumpin/sumpin I like.

I wish they could have a heavy metal week and I could watch David A try to do an AC/DC song like "Hells Bells" or "You Shook Me All Night Long", I would laugh my ass off, cause no way IN HELL can he pull off anything but a Christian song or a ballad, It would almost be worth MJ getting booted to see that! (giggles to self)

With the exception of Carly and Syesha being switched, the results were pretty much like I posted last night. I think Kristy is very talented and genuine. I hope she is able to have a possible start in country music, because I think she would do well. I felt for Eliot Yamin after his song tonight, since he just lost his mother in the last couple of days. I know that took a lot for him to perform without her being there like she was when he was in the competition.

OK Chick... below is news article on Michael... seems we'll be seeing a lot of him ... by the way, check the pictures in the Sploofus group in Facebook.. I think there may be one there just for you )

THINGS are looking up for Australia's Michael Johns despite his shock dismissal from American Idol, including hanging out with Ashton Kutcher and a call from Dolly Parton.

The Perth-born 29-year-old, who struggled for a decade in the US to establish a music career, has been offered numerous recording deals since his elimination last week.

He's also had enough brushes with A-List celebrities since to dine out on for decades to come.

A few hours after the jaws of American Idol's 30 million TV viewers dropped to the floor when Johns was asked to leave, his own idol, country singer Dolly Parton, called his mobile phone.

"There was a voice on the phone and it said 'Michael, this is Dolly'," Johns, a guest on US TV talkshow Regis & Kelly recalled.

"She said 'You have a great career ahead of you and I'd like to write with you and maybe do a duet'."

After his surprise send-off Johns jetted off to New York and dropped in to the set of NBC TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL) where Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher was the guest host.

Johns was invited back to the SNL after-party where Kutcher, his wife Demi Moore and plenty of other A-listers, including Cameron Diaz, partied late into the night.

"Demi Moore came up to me, gave me a big hug and said 'You were robbed'," Johns said.

"I was standing there thinking 'If this is Demi Moore hugging me then I'm freaking out right now'."

The night got better.

Johns was then invited to the SNL after-party's after-party.

It was at a Manhattan bar and Kutcher and Moore had organised a band to entertain their friends, but the band failed to turn up.

"Demi came up and said 'Would you sing?', " Johns, shaking his head, said.

"It was weird.

"A guy played keyboards and then Ashton and I were singing.

"It was so surreal."

Johns, who was considered one of the top three competitors on American Idol before the shock elimination, said he was not about to let his fame from the reality TV show go to waste.

"It's time to get to work now," he said.

I got home about 11 P.M. EST, so I watched Idol on You Tube......

Hmm...songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Very challenging indeed. I was in high school when Phantom of the Opera was just coming out in the initial run, and we did some of the songs in our drama shows. They are great songs. I've seen Cats, and some of his other work as well. Needless to say, you have to have some serious vocal skills to tackle most of his songs. With that said, here's how I thought they did. If these are out of order, I apologize, since I didn't see it live...

Syesha - Loved it. Definitely her niche'....could see her doing what Jennifer Hudson did in Dreamgirls. It was her best performance of the season.

Jason - Obviously not his favorite type of music. He picked a song that is very well known, and really didn't come through on it.

David A. - He did very good again. I think he's putting himself in position to be the favorite to win, because he appeals to so many, and being 17 is making him look that much more impressive.

Carly - I thought she did awesome. The song suited her, and I think she's put herself back in contention this week.

Brooke - I do like her, but I'm not sure she came across as effectively as most of the others in her song.

David C. - He did great again. It wasn't my favorite performance of his, but he did prove he is versatile to be more than just a rocker.

My picks for the bottom 3- Definitely Brooke and Jason. The other....I couldn't tell ya. I think Brooke goes home. After this week, I think the competition is going to get really intense, as the remaining 5 all have a shot, depending on how they do each week going forward.

Good analysis...Syesha is really coming on, you can see that she is learning and improving, I agree she could become a star on Broadway, David A. was excellent, never cared for the song but he peformed it so well, David C. was excellent as well, I thought he might struggle a little this week, he proved himself, good thing A.L. Webber got Carly to change her song, she was great, final three will be hard to guess because Syesha is coming on, bad choice for Jason and he's been one of my favorites, Carly has been struggling as well, she must be the sweetheart of America, she has a lovely voice and is so charming, we'll see, hope it's not a shock this week

My picks for the bottom tonight: Brooke, Carly and Jason.

Jason: Just plain bad this week. I'd amen Simon's comment that he looked like a kid being forced to sing a song he didn't like in a talent show by his parents.

Brooke: If at this point you can't remember a song, you're in deep trouble. And given a second chance if you don't go lights out, you're begging for a ticket home.

Carly: I'm glad somebody sang something from "Superstar," but her rendition definitely brought to mind the old Southern term "Screamin' Jesus."

My overall farewell this week: Jason, but it wouldn't shock me to see Carly leave. Brooke seems to have a following that's apparently interested in something other than singing ability, and she'll hang on.

Based strictly on last night's performance, bottom 3: Brooke, Jason and David A. (I know, I know "but he's so cute" puke). He was good but this week there are only the bottom 3 and the top 3.

Top 3 therefore: David C, Carly and Syesha (gotta say she did great last night).

Brookey baby is going home.

I know the little girls are going to vote for the cuteboys, that's always happened. And they're the ones who actually buy the cds, so I don't mind that. But Brooke over Carly? So, let me get this straight....if you stand there and forget your words (i.e., you don't sing) you're not put in the bottom two.

Okay, so it isn't a singing contest...even if Brooke won, she'd still have to perform somewhere and actually sing...what gives?

I was caught off guard myself, even knowing that this is not an uncommon even to happen on Idol (Daughtry still takes the prize as the biggest of all shockers), but it just means that the others have corned some market of psycho phone freaks who get enough votes in to keep them in the competition. I really hate that Carly got sent home. I would have loved to see her and Syesha belt it out for a couple more weeks. I'd speculate on who has the best chance, but at this point, it's a crap shoot.

I guess I console myself that Chris Daughtry has been more successful than anyone who beat him that year, so ... where you end up on the show doesn't necessarily predict ... where you'll end up.

Still - Brooke, Syesha & David A. bore me almost every week now ... woulda been nice to have Carly to look forward to for a while longer.

Just finished watching the show an hour ago. Can't believe Carly was the one to go. My guess would have been Brooke or Jason. Pretty much thought the two Davids would stay. Jason must have a big fan club. Loved watching Leona perform. Her song is never-ending on the radio but this is the first time I have actually seen the woman behind the voice.

I guess it's all about the fan base. Syesha and Carly were both very, very good and shouldn't have been in the bottom. Carly got a little cocky and said she would have fun from now on when she was up there with Jason. As soon as her name was called , I knew she was going home. Too bad really, I didn't think she would win it but thought she might be in the final three.
Jason and Brooke have an appeal to America that just won't quit. They're both so real and likeable, just don't think they're as talented as the others vocally.

Okay, after seeing both performances, here's how I think they stacked up, best to worst:

David Cook - Most original versions of the songs, easy to listen to. He was by far the best to me this week. With how this season has went, he's probably on his way out this week (I really hope not, though)

Syesha - She's still not getting the respect she deserves. I think she did very well on both songs. It just seems to me that Simon in particular is trying to get her voted off with his comments.

David A. - He to me was average on the first song, very good second song. Probably his weakest performances so far though.

Brooke - She did better this week, and I think she ought to stay this week, but I have a feeling that she might be in trouble since she doesn't have the fan base that some of the others have.

Jason - Truthfully, I thought his performances were lame, and he didn't seem to be into his songs tonight. He should be the one to go home. I seriously doubt he is going though. Again, a crap shoot, depending on who did and didn't call in.

None of them impressed me tonight. Maybe it was the Neil Diamond songs. If I had to pick the best one would have to be David Cook at least he tries to make the song his own. Can't wait to see who gets bumped tomorrow night.

I think Brooke must have a HUGE fan base to have stayed on this long.

But I did quite like her "I Am I Said". "I'm A Believer" I thought was awful.

I thought Syesha(!) was the only person that had two good songs. I do think Simon is trying to influence voting against her.

David C.'s 2nd song I thought was the best of the night, but his first bored me.

David A. - I don't get why he's the odd-on favorite. He's adorable and he has a fantastic voice but no real personality of his own. I think he makes almost every song sound the same.

Jason - Both of his songs were safe & pleasant. I'm biased with him, but this week I wouldn't argue with anyone who thought he was boring.

Aside from that - I think that has to be the most messed up I've ever seen Paula. Wth was that? "I thought you sang twice"?? And did I mishear or did she call Syesha "Brooke" at the end?

I almost voted tonight. First I was going to vote for Jason - he's my favorite. Then I was going to vote for David C. because he's the only other person I'd like to see win and I think he has a better chance. Then I thought of voting for Syesha b/c I thought she had the best night. But then I came to my senses and didn't vote at all.

(Not that I'm knocking anyone who did - I have before. The woman with 2 Jason Castro songs on her Ipod is certainly not being snooty. =)

I have to start with Paula, she'll be blasted all over for her remarks. Simon tried to protect her but clearly she has has some issues.

David C. 1st song- pretty good, 2nd song-way better, he was the most original so I'll have to give him highest marks but not best singing for me (I sound like Randy).

Syesha- I liked both songs and I like what's emerged. She deserves to be top three at this point vocally, but she doesn't seem to have the fans that Brooke and Jason have.

David A.- This kid has an amazing voice but does he ever feel the song he sings? I don't feel connected to him at all. There will be no "pop" songs ever coming out of him, opera maybe, could be me I guess.

Brooke- I really didn't like the 1st song but she was relaxed singing it and had a few spots it was ok. The second song was much better. Folks love her but she hasn't gotten better as the weeks have worn on not like David C or Syesha. David A came in singing like he does.

Jason C.- I love this kid. I liked both his songs, September Morn more, and I think there's a niche for him and his music. I hope he gets signed to a label after this is over.

Brooke should go, she was weakest, Syesha seems to have the weakest fan base since she's been in the bottom most. Too bad really, she doesn't deserve it.

At this stage of the contest, Jason is the one who should exit. He seems to be having a ball though doesn't he?
I liked Syesha's songs, the first more than the second. She looked beautiful as well.
David C. did well on both. He should be in the final. I hope he doesn't have have the Daughtry jinx, though look at he $ he's making!
David A. was vocally better than anyone. While I can't connect to him, he might just win. His voice is amazing, I admit. I just don't know what kind of songs would be on the CD he'd sell. He doesn't seem to have any persona. Turning 18 and getting his dad off his back might help I guess.

Like Linda, I really like David A. However, I don't think his performances have been all that strong the last few weeks. As I've said before, I think he has tremendous natural talent and a beautiful voice. Sometimes he seems hampered by his youth and possibly, as has been suggested, his father. I'd like to hear him sing some more rousing songs, maybe something R&B. I was hoping he'd rock out on his 2nd song. He needs to show more versatility and vareity in song choice, IMO. Despite all that, I'm still a big fan of his.

I also really like David Cook. I think his voice and stage presence are amazing. I don't think he needs Idol. I'd buy one of his CDs now.

I liked Syesha's 2nd song better than her version of "Proud Mary." I agreed with Simon that it just seemed like an imitation of Tina Turner. But I hope she manages to stick around for another week.

Yeah, it's time for Jason to go.

Interesting show tonight... opening group performance seemed quite awkward and weird to me...
Maroon 5 - I'm not really familiar with their songs but I'm thinking if that guy auditioned for Simon, he'd prolly be gone in the first round lol
Bo Bice was AWESOME ... that's my kind of genre
Sad to see Jason leave but, understandable.. I think we haven't heard the last from him
And yes.. David C will W-I-N (maybe lol)

Buh Bye Jason

True

Anybody who mangles Marley AND Dylan in one night SHOULD get the boot.

If you'll watch the Larry King show posted above, you'll see that the 3 judges think David A will win and that was way back already.

I feel quite sorry for Syesha, she's like the 1st runner up in Miss America, not quite good enough, but really hot. (She's smokin and regardless of this IDOL thing, she's on her way).

This is my public appeal to all of you.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...don't let a singer who doesn't have any idea who the Beatles are or (yes, Diva) who Elvis is. The boy (David A) can sing, but holy CRIPES does he not care or have any idea of the songs/songwriters that have gone before him? That's a friggin travesty. And before every David A groupie gets on my shit, Jason C is 3 years older, so no "he's too young" BS. If you want to paint, you shoud have SOME idea who Leonardo DaVinci is, if you want to be the next Idol, please AT LEAST don't admit you don't know songs from the Beatles or Elvis, my kids do and they are 6 and 9. Aweful, just aweful.

That being said, my futile votes are going David C's way, he rocks it out.

David A appeals to 12 year olds, they can't buy crap without mom's charge card.

Me.

David C is only 3 years older than David A? Wow. He seems WAY older.

According to the Idol site, David A. is 17, David C. is 25. When you're that young, I think that's quite an age difference -- at least it was to me way back when.

I thought I knew it all at either age. But now I'm SURE I know it all.

Kelly try to think back to when you were 17 and I'm sure you will remember that you were probably into the music of the time. This could be the case with David A. When I was 17 I didn't listen to what I called old fogey music. To David the Beatles are old. I'm sorry that Jason had to go but he just seemed as though he didn't care anymore. David C. has a great voice and I can picture him on album covers. Can't wait to see what happens next week and by the way I love Maroon 5.

I'm with Chick. I am going to vote like crazy to keep David A. from winning. He has a great voice, but he has NO personality and, as I've stated many times, he creeps me out!

That means those 12-year-old girls and I are going to have to vote all the more for David A to counteract your votes. David C can take the Bo Bice route. He will do just fine on his own. All that being said, I plan to show up for Syesha's hometown return this Friday, televised for next Tuesday's Idol. She's doing a free (just my speed) concert in Sarasota at the Ringling Museum, and I'll check it out.

Chick said JASON was 3 years older.
I like him a lot and was rooting for him, but it was time. That Marley was atrocious. And how do you forget the lyrics "jingle jangle morning"?? Besides, he said in an interview last week (before the performance) that he was ready to go home. Someone who really wants it should win.

I'm also really hoping David A. doesn't win. I think it'll drive me to vote in fact.
He doesn't creep me out - I think he's adorable - but he has NO stage presence. A great voice alone shouldn't cut it.
And I agree that someone who wants to be a musician should be up on his history a bit more. Elvis and the Beatles were before my time too, but I knew their music when I was much younger than 17! Wouldn't it be odd if a 17 year old classical pianist said they weren't familiar with Beethoven?

*sigh* It almost always seems to get boring by this point.

I've seen video that's running around the net of Jason while Ryan is reading his numbers and he appears to look into the camera and say "don't vote." Has anyone else seen it?

Here's my opinions of how the top 3 did tonight:

David A. - I thought his vocals were very good on all his songs. The problem I think he's going to face is that, because he's done all of these songs that are 'older' than him, he's going to have a hard time putting out music that would be Top 40 friendly. That being said, I think he has the best shot of probably winning it all. I say that, because just like Taylor Hicks, he has enough people of all ages that will vote for him. Taylor hasn't been as lucky as a past winner, so I hope that don't happen to David....

Syesha - She did good on her songs as well. I agreed with most of what the judges said though, that she was way too predictable, and at least two of the songs were too comparable with the originals. She didn't make them her own, and that might get her voted off. But she has a great voice and looks to match, and nothing is ever for certain with how outcomes go. I think she has as equal a chance as the other two, depending on how many stepped up and voted for her.

David C. - He's still my favorite, because he is by far the most entertaining and original on the show. He has done versions of songs I would have never thought would be possible. I do think he didn't do as well on his pick of song, which surprised me, but bounced back at the end with the Aerosmith song. Should he win? To me, definitely. Will he? Chances are, I don't think he will. I don't know that he has as variety a fan base as the other David.

Top Prediction: The two Davids in the final.
Next Best Guess: David A. and Syesha in the final, since too many David C. fans assumed he would get enough votes and didn't vote.

Of course, opinions are like um....you know.

I agree with everything you said. Syesha doesn't seem to have quite the fan base that both the Davids have had so it's likely going to be the Davids in the final. Though if either of the Davids fans don't vote it could be her and one of them as you say.
My favorite was David Cook singing Aerosmith as well. It doesn't really matter if he wins it; he'll make money singing in the long run. It's only better for the show.

After watching last night, my wife and I came to the same conclusion: Syehsa chose songs that would get the attention of Broadway folks. It seemed to me a musical concession speech, going out with what she felt she did best.

And I think it will serve her well in the future. But it won't get her into the finals.

His voice is amazing but I get a little bored with David A. His songs are pretty predictable and all of his runs are always the same.

I did get a little teary when David C sang "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Especially when I saw his mom standing up through the whole song with big tears in her eyes.

I'm a David A fan, but I was also moved by David C's "The First Time Ever" and it's really a hard song to sing.

When Syesha came to Sarasota/Bradenton for her hometown visit, she got a tremendous amount of local press. She graduated from the local Performing Arts High School, and has a huge following there. Also there is a downtown restaurant in Sarasota that has Syesha viewing night on a huge screen TV and menu items named after her (Que-syesha and Pizza Mercado). She may have gotten enough voter support to get her through to the top. We'll find out soon.

Kills me but I agree with Taz.

David A has a huge fan base now, but like the "Soul Patrol", they should disappear when he puts out his first boring ass CD that has all ballads. Puke.

Syesha did OK with her songs, but she's resigned herself to Broadway (could that chair have been a bigger hint?).

David C did incredible, the only complaint is that I wish his Switchfoot song coulda been 2 minutes longer, love that song and hated that he had to end it. And I too had a tear in my eye with the Roberta Flack "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". Talk about the other two getting lobs (David A with Billy Joel and Syesha with Alicia Keys...gimme a break). Simon challenged him and he is the only one that could pull off that kind of "out of his comfort zone" grand slam.

Syesha will go home.

Me.

Kinda figured that from the "Hometown" shots. Not many people out for Syesha, not to worry, she's smokin hot with a Great voice, she'll do fine.

Ummm...can we talk about the Fantasia thing? Holy Crap was that a train wreck....

I agree totally about Fantasia. As she was shreaking her song I was imagining what Simon would say if she had been a contestant then.

I didn't see the show tonight. Was it that Fantasia shrieked out her song, or was there more to the "train wreck" than that?

BTW, I'm a fan of both David A. and David C. I hope David C. wins, as I think his performances have been the most consistently excellent, and I just think he's the most deserving, the most versatile, unique, etc. I also have concerns about David A. due to his youth. I'd like to see him get more practice, education and possibly distance from his father so he can develop more of his own personality.

Did you see Simon's face when Fantasia was on the stage?? Priceless!.. and his enthusiastic clapping when she was done? Not! lol.. he looked like he didn't know what just happened lmao

Have to say though, Fantasia was my favourite during her season and I was happy she won. Very Macy Grey.

David C. has to win.

My favorite celebrity smut side, dlisted.com, described it as this:

".....was like if Ronald McDonald's crackhead sister got a shot of the devil in her and was stuffed into a velvet jumpsuit and thrown on stage to perform. Fanny wasn't even singing. It was more like manic chicken clucking!"

We've been saying David vs. David, let's what dreadful song they'll get them to sing. I hope David C can rock it out a bit.

Yes, Fantasia was a train wreck! Simon's mouth was hanging open! Too funny, I liked her during the season she was on though. She should sing not what ever that was, I couldn't understand the words (showing my age).
