IN THE INTEREST OF EQUALITY...

...I think I should be allowed to do the same.

That cell phone situation is interesting, but the rape decision blew my mind. In the U.S. rape charges are handed out usually on the female's word. Then the male has to go through hell and his life is ruined. A large percentage of women do not show up in court when a rape trial is conducted. I think that it was written that almost 60% of all rapes are not reported. Situations like the tight jeans are an example.

Jesus Christ, Bill, I don't even know where to start.

Rape is a crime of violence - not lust, and the jeans have nothing to do with it, otherwise it would be pretty hard to explain 80 year old women raped and murdered in their nightgowns, or the uncountable numbers of raped children of both sexes and all ages, down to diapers. Here's a news flash - homely fat girls in baggy clothes get raped too. We're not asking to be raped, no matter how we dress.

Yes, there are some false accusations of rape made by angry and unscrupulous women, but the enormous number of unreported rapes you mention has far more to do with a devastated spirit in fear of running into attitudes exactly like yours; that's one of the major factors that makes far too many children and women keep quiet about what has been done to them against their will.

My apologies. I didn't mean "attitudes like yours" I meant an attitude that imagines that men rape women out of sexual attraction enticed by the woman, and thinks that more than a very few deeply disturbed and pathetic women would put themselves through the ordeal of lodging a false rape charge. If those are not your attitudes, forgive me for misunderstanding.

Donna, like some of my TQOTD selections, I came across wrong. What I was trying to say was what I saw happen to a few guys in my old neighborhood. Rape is a terrible crime against women, and sometimes men, that the courts should go to the fullest extent of their powers to enforce. Sorry, if I didn't come across correctly. I did drop a note to the writer of this thread telling him I didn't want to upset anyone.

Of note if you read the story closely, the reason given for the "tight jeans" part was not that the woman was "asking for it", it was that the court felt it was almost impossible to get them off without the woman's help, therefore she must have been willing.

I guess those justices never had a gun pointed at them...
