DOES ANYBODY BY CHANCE WORK FOR THE GAS COMPANY?

I got my first bill from the local gas company. We only have gas heat -- everything else is electric. It was a two month bill, which I expected, and the total was $57.90.

At first I thought it was a reasonable bill because it has been cold in the Atlanta, GA area this winter. Upon further scrutiny of the bill, however, only $20.00 was for the gas, and $37.90 was for customer service fees.

Did the deregulation of the natural gas industry cause this insanity? If it matters, I chose a fixed rate instead of a variable rate. At the end of my year I will be shopping for a new provider.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Yep- big business got the attention of our political leaders years ago, and got DE-REGULATION established in most states.

The customer service fees should be for "transmission".
A fixed plan may be in your interest at this time, but keep checking web sites on "customer choice" programs to get the best advice.

The 'cost" of natural gas is fixed , in your plan I believe.

All I know is that our gas and electric bills are increasing way above the cost of living.

We do need an energy policy that protects consumers.
De-regulation doesn't protect consumers from the monopolistic practices of energy companies. Let's go back to the "good old days."

I would love a $57.00 gas bill in the winter. Up here in the Windy City we $300.00 & 400.00 Bills at least 2 and 3 months of the winter. It really is crazy.

Living up North can be an experience with gas companies. My February bill was $306.00.
They are "all" crooked and cannot be trusted. Pay by the month and stay away from budget plans. Mine would be $140.00 per month, all year. The next time you vote Republican, think about your gas bill. I also have rats in the electric, water, sewage, and garbage departments to put up with. I would move down South but we don't like the heat.

Hey! My gas bill is in front of me now. A one month bill for - drumroll - $496. But the bright side is that I didn't have the air conditioner on so the electric bill is only $163. And, I'm tellin' ya, I've got a small house here. I think Long Island, NY has the highest utility rates, so don't complain around these parts!

We don't use gas - just electricity. Our bill runs between $100-$150 a month and we use our fireplace for heat.

Although that causes my skin to dry out and as a result, my excema is acting up - $%^@ing Republicans!
