WP: ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION

While I like the idea of this puzzle, I blew something like 15 moves and
800 points on the first puzzle, which I still don't understand. I googled
it and that was no help. It's not a word recognized by Dictionary.com.
At some point would someone smarter than me provide a definition?

If it is the puzzle I had trouble with, I also blew a bazillion moves on it. Of course its not in the dictionary - you had to adjust for inflation, just like the title says. Re-evaluate it down, and you'll figure it out. One word puzzles are tough even if they are real words!

Loved the puzzle, by the way.

that one puzzle was BS!!!! I have rarely been more ticked off at an answer.

I got 4 puzzles with zero moves and one with 16.

Really, that is total BS, whoever pulls that one stupid puzzle is screwed. This is all luck.

If you all are talking about the one with the clue "species", then I wasted quite a few letters as well, but when I did figure it out, I thought it was cute, it didn't anger me. But I agree that those who receive that one, in particular, will likely have several more moves than those who do not.
I really enjoyed this puzzle, especially the light math. It was fun to exercise both sides of the ole canoodle.

I eventually got the "adjusted for inflation" part--on the second puzzle.
But to have figured it out on the first puzzle required not only that I
understand the puzzle, but that I know the original term/phrase being
altered/adjusted. (Sorry if I am giving away too much.) But I still don't
know what that word/phrase was, and if it's being made up by the
puzzle's writer, then I'm screwed.

The answer isn't a word. Even the gobblety gook Welsh towns were words.

I literally had 4 puzzles with zero moves. If I hadn't pulled that puzzle (looks like most everyone has so far) I'd be up by 8 or 10.

Worst. Ever.

Thank god I am one of the select few demoing 2.0 with the unlimited WPs...

Hey Smaug, At least you didn't have to cue up for a snooker game, like yesterday.

Loved the puzzle, but also got the one word question and still can't figure it out. Could someone please PM me what it meant?

Thank you!

Susan

I would have really enjoyed this puzzle but for the one word answer that cost me 800 points and far too many moves! Sound like a few of you got stuck on the same one.

Could someone provide an explanation when the puzzle is over (or PM me).

In parting, I am compelled one final time to comment on the utter suckiness of the puzzle whose answer was "dodecapus", which is not a word. In fact, dod, dec, eca, cap, apus, are not words.

Maddening, especially considering that my other puzzles had answers like "eight"....I got four without any moves, and I probably would have tied for first.

I presume it was the one that was a species adjusted by 50% that caused the problem? It certainly cost me a few extra moves, but I got there in the end - it's an octopus, adjusted up by 50% to dodecapus.

If you're still not there, octo = eight, dodeca = twelve, 50% more, so octopus becomes dodecapus.

That one was difficult, but I enjoyed the rest of the puzzle and got most of them fairly easily, despite not being up on all the original phrases (which were not made up, by the way, at least the ones I got; they were film names and others that were similar, I checked afterwards).
