UIL RESULTS TODAY - PROBABLY ONLY INTERESTS MUSIC TEACHERS

Well, I received the shock of my life today. We earned straight "1s" (superior rating from all 6 judges) and made Sweepstakes at Middle School Orchestra Concert and Sightreading Contest (Texas).

I've been kidding my orchestra that they are the HMS Bipolar Orchestra - some days they play a "1" in rehearsal and the next day they play a "3." Their inconsistency has resulted in this being the first time I've ever been nervous before UIL.

But they were pure magic today. Don't you just love those days? We are the only low socio-economic school in town to make even near Sweepstakes. It is so fun to see students who are so often put down becoming teary and screaming and jumping for joy at the results of their hard work. It's a life lesson they might not learn anywhere else. Bless their hearts!

Congratulations!

To you for providing the opportunity, and to your students for meeting the challenge and succeeding!

I disagree, this is of interest to all of us that care about children.

I care! As a matter of fact, my community quiz this month was on our high school band - they also received "1"'s yesterday - but it had taken a good long time to get there...and now hang on to it.

Congrats to your kids - tell them to keep working hard - the discipline of music and being in band / marching band is something you don't get anywhere else - especially when you are challenging the kids to reach those higher levels.

If anyone think the football team is working hard right before school - go watch band camp - that'll get you - even better - volunteer - help serve food and water to the kids in their breaks - watch them - amaze yourself with what they can do!

Okay Jan - you hit a "point for me" - again though - I'm thrilled for you AND your kids!

Congrats! Being a teacher also, I can well understand your joy and relief. After all of the hassles, weird hours, and paperwork, you deserve to feel delighted.

Going to state is amazing - our band will be attempting to make another trip this year and the Texas 3A bands are hot on our tail - in 2006 they achieved something no other band had ever done before in Texas 3 straight wins - and will be trying to trump it with a 4th win - if anyone here is in Texas & in 3A & 5A - and your band is going, let me know - we will hopefully make it to the state finals again and it would be neat to find other sploofusers there - PM me in October 2008
