Q FOR TEACHER'S ON GPA

How is GPA calculated?

My son's report card is as follows:

C+
B
B+
B+
A-
A+

I read some where that A is worth 4, B+ is worth 3.5, B is worth 3.0, etc

If I do that and add them up and divide by 6, I get a GPA of 3.41.

Is that correct?

Unless they changed the system, I think his GPA would be 3.16

I never heard of a B+ being worth more points than a B (3 points). Again, maybe they changed something.

Still, a good GPA! A "B" average will usually get the parents a discount on car insurance, and since boys cost so much to insure, every bit helps!

You need more information to calculate the GPA. In some schools, different courses have different 'weights', so an A in cooking, for example, wouldn't count as heavily as an A in Calculus. In other schools, only major courses are counted toward the GPA. In either case, your son's report card looks pretty good.
