ARE FITB TQOTD'S LEGAL ??

I really haven't done any whining in here lately, but today I just blew 48 million points on a Sports Soup question. I had discussion with Support and I actuually accepted their decision and I'm out the points. I told one of my sons who does write Sploofus quizzes and he pointed out that the question was not a valid question because it was a "Fill in the blank" question. Support says that it was a good question.
Going to "My Puzzles", it says FITB questions are not allowed. Does anyone have an opinion on this ??

I think you got SCREWED.

They should refund your points. Give you a new question. A back massage, and babysit your children.

I remember this being discussed a while back in the forums, but I can't seem to locate the thread. I don't recall which month it was.

The reason that fill-in-the-blanks were done away with in writing standard quizzes was not about whether it was a legitimate way of posing a question. Of course it is. There were two specific issues that were addressed with the ban.

The first was a technical issue about the underscore character posing a problem in exporting the quizzes to different websites which Justin wanted the players to be able to do at one point.

The second, and more important reason, concerned trying to keep quizzes on the front pages longer. We were literally being swamped by players who would write as many as 50 FITB quizzes a day, drowning out the carefully thought out quizzes of other writers.

I think "ALL" accepted quizzes should be allowed on the front page for 24 hours minimum, No matter how many that are posted. I had many a good quiz wasted because of not enough time on that page during the day.

I'd rather be blown of the the board by a FITB, than one of those crappy community quizzes. The last batch had only one with over 100 takers. It's now merely another 'clique' thing. With the majority of takers staying away in droves, why bother. To heck with the majority of quiz writers. The elite must have there perks. Barnie Rocks!

While we are complaining-yup a whine. I hate the fact that dates and numbers are asked for in the question of the day. I received one this am (sports-certainly not ideally my best category but am a bigger dunce in music thus that is my exempt one) and made a lucky guess which I believe it has to be whether in that category or on quizzes. Know some people are history buffs but I am not one of them unless the date or number is of some general significance. I also believe quizzes deserve an alloted time on most recent list as EXPOSURE is the name of the game at least until the promised 2.0 appears.

Although new FITB quizzes will not be accepted any written before the cut off date are still active. The same is true of TQOTD.

Good point, Sargon. I find FITB quizzes too easy and no fun, but I'm not going to complain about QOTDs being too easy, especially if I'm wagering. Bring 'em on!

The FITB TQOTDs are ones that were written before FITBs were stopped. In fact, they were written before editors started writing TQOTDs. That means we do not have access to them to delete or change them...simple as that.

If you can't access something the player should get their points back. This has happened to me a couple times before. Instead I get labeled as whiner and complainer. I've lost a lot of points doing showdowns when I knew I've won but you couldn't access them. Again, I should get my points back and get a retake. This isn't money.

I thought the SQAG contained the rules for writing TRIVIA QUIZZES on this site. TQOTDs are a completely different feature, no? By the logic put forth by those decrying FITB TQOTDs, because it is illegal to drive 60 miles per hour in a School Zone, it should also be banned on a rural Interstate.

I appreciate your point, but FITB or not, you did not lose your points because the question was an FITB. You lost them because you selected an incorrect answer.

Kaufman's point is well taken. Even though we no longer create FITB TQOTDs, their is nothing mandating their removal.

What if I didn't fill in anything and left it blank. I know I make mistakes, so does the Sploofus regime. I have to lose when I'm not right, you guys say your sorry because you can't access something.

Why not accept you lost, Papermanbill. I had the experience of issuing a showdown, and it registered twice. I got it right, but my opp. got it wrong. I won nearly 2 Mill. in points. My opp. then took it again, knowing the answer, gained 2 Mill, not lost any to start, and I had 2 Mill deducted. What a farce that was, as Sploofus tried to rectify my points, but managed to deducy another 6 mill. They allso said they could not deduct the 2 Mill from the person concerned. Thats how to win, take a question twice. It does not matter if you get it wrong first time.

I think he had the same showdown glitch I did with Sharper, but he's got it wrong. (imagine that)

The other player doesn't see the same qestion twice, but two separate and different questions. Sharper missed the one we had in common, but got the one I never saw, so we both got the points.

Me not being greedy or vindictive enough to demand that the extra points be taken from Sharper, life goes on.

Donna, I had other glitches and didn't get points due, just apologies. Didn't want to complain but I get a few too many weird questions. Cannot say or prove anything, but luck of the draw BS is old stuff.

You seriously believe for a second that editors are out to get you and are deliberately feeding you tricky questions in your favorite category to make you lose wagers?

Really truly? Maybe that's why I didn't get a vocab question in a month. Twice.

Now you've got me thinking they're out to get me too.

Sorry, Heidi, had to remove your question/answer - here's the rest of your post.

Question: I know the editors say one cannot receive the same Question of the Day twice, but are the same questions used for both that and Showdowns? I was challenged to a showdown and both of us answered incorrectly so no lose to anyone. A few days later I received, I believe, the identical question for my question of the day. Luckily my memory loss is not super severe and I got it right. Really am finding the daily questions more obscure these days and not true to the category. FINALLY yet again-who is receiving all of the VOCABULARY questions?? Thanks!!

Felix,

Actually some of us enjoy the Community Quiz. So, since there are people willing to write them, and people willing to take them, so be it. I've written CC's that had well over 200 takers, and others that had 75. So what? I know the rules.

Just because YOU don't like them, and they don't meet YOUR standards for enjoyment doesn't mean they need to cease. Maybe it is a Clique... But it is one ANYONE is encouraged to join..

I'm glad you see yourself as such an elite player as to discount things you don't like as a waste of time that no-one cares about.

Fortunately, as is true MOST of the time when you bitch and moan , it's YOU who is in the minority.

Perhaps the FITB quizzes would suit your acumen.......

Sorry Texweeny for speaking my mind. Just another example of being in the clique or being berated. Thanks for proving my point. I never said I was elite but you do seem to have a eye for talent. I respect your view, I just sorry that you don't have the manners or sense to do the same.

I'm REALLY up to my hairline with this "clique" crap.

Just because people like each other, appreciate and respond to each others' humor, form friendships, like and dislike some of the same things and people, does not mean it's a clique. What the flip IS a clique, anyway? Show me one. Is everyone who has a friends list (whether it works or not ) in a clique?

Am I in a clique? Which one? How can one tell if they're in a clique?

I consider myself a clique of one and nobody else can join. So there.

Bloody hell.

That's a good one, Felix.... Take you all damn day to come up with that? How funny for you to comment on my "manners" when you have the couth and intellect of a rabid weasel. I don't mind the name calling, but, Felix, really.... Try to be more creative than a 1st grader.

Can I pay an extra $5 and be able to write a community quiz...? Nope, no need for extra $, JUST DO IT.

Me.

If I ask " Who was the first president of the USA"?, and then give a list of 5 names, is this really any different to my putting "The first president of the USA was _________________?, followed by the same 5 names.

A question is a questionis a question. No amount of bleating or whinging will ever alter that you got it wrong.

Barnie please realize that regardless of what is said, a few players determine what goes on here. Most are also editors. The ones that deny it the most are the main ones. If you ain't in the clique then don't bother. Your opinions will not be accepted. If they can't knock you down as a player they'll do it as an editor. Just speak your mind and know that it has 'always' been this way. It will never change. You have a great point about the FITB, but just like Congress those in power don't care about the majority. Enjoy the site and speak your mind and look for real friends elsewhere. Have a great day.

I got my G.E.D. when I was 22 after I had 18 college credited hours. I never did get a diploma, I think I have a learning disability. Maybe learning all the ins and outs on Sploofus after a few years, I'll hit my next Level. I've never been a good listener or
follower throughout my life. Maybe that's why I started this thread. Maybe, after we
get this long awaited 2.0, I can be in the Remedial section of this great site. Oh. nothing against newspaper people, the paper I deal with for professionals. I didn't want anyone to think I still have a route.

The last time I delivered papers that were read was when I went to all the book joints
on the Southside of Chicago. Scratch sheets and Racing forms do get you good tips. When I got out of th Navy, I was a bagman for Football and Baseball betting, just like Goodfellows. I also collected and paid bets for my mentor, Jimmy Venturelli (R.I.P) at the steel company I worked for. I was making $700-$800 a week clear in the mid 60's. I drove new cars all the time and drank to excess. Yes, the tips were good on my route.
I can't talk about my truck route, the Feds might be Sploofus editors. Shhhhhhhhhh !!!
