You can challenge an individual (not your choice) to answer a 'showdown question' which are just like the trivia of the day questions. If you win (fastest to answer and answer right) you will win points..if you lose those points (10% of your total points). If you both answer wrong then it is a draw.
The person challenged will not lose points if they answer wrong, so the pressure is on the one who wagers.
You received the token for answering 10 trivia of the day questions right.
Look up at the top of your screen for the level you are at and it will tell you how many questions you need till the next level..I am at 6.8. I need 2 more questions before I recieve my next showdown token.
You can go into command center and at the top of the screen pull down the list till you see showdown challenges. It will explain more there.
Good Luck

Actually, it's Wager tokens that you get at the completion of each level. Showdown tokens are issued each Sunday (weekly) so you can accumulate quite a lot if you don't challenge the person ahead of you on the leaderboard.
If you go to your command center, and click on the "Showdown" box, it will take you to a page which talks about the showdowns and has a link to click on which explains how they work.

Sorry..linen is right. Oopsy!
If you choose to 'showdown' someone then it will be the next person above your total score.
Wager tokens are for when you think you 'know' the topic and might be able to get the right answer. Then you wager your own 'points'.
I feel like a complete blonde.
Thanks linen for clarifying.. =)

The person who is one rank ahead of you on the jackpot leaderboard will be the one that you challenge.

In addition to getting a showdown token every week, you can get them by referring people to Sploofus and 10,000 bonus points!

I am seeing that bug that doesn't give you 10% of points on a that not going to be resolved?

Sleestak, what are you talking about? Please clarify. I think the wagers and showdowns are working correctly.

Don't go by the clock. If your showdown clock ran out
last night at 11:00 (that's what it is for me cst) you have
to wait another 24 hours before you get the points.

If that isn't your situation I don't have an answer.
Submit a support ticket.

Considering the moves you've been making, is this
the first time you've had to go the whole 8 days for
a showdown?

Sleestak may be referring to the "feature" (?) that caps the maximum number of points transferred on a Showdown at a tenth of 2^31.

Thank you, Kaufman. Yes, that is what I am talking about. I should provide more detail I guess.

My showdown points have not been 10% of points, but were actually 10% of a number that Kaufman points out to be 2^31. Or 2^(2^5-1)? I didn't know if this was right or wrong, but I went to the FAQs and somewhere in there ... there is a question about this very same issue that was asked several months ago. The response given to that question at that time was that this will be resolved when there is some decision made about the points or points system.

I don't follow the boards closely, but I didn't know if there was some pending "decision" about points. I guess I wanted to make sure that this wasn't something that was just happening to me and to the extent that there is some change that was going to be made...what the status was of that change.

Thanks...sorry I wasn't more specific before in my questions.

Another Question about Showdowns:

I have been a member since 2006, and I understand that I receive a showdown token weekly. I referred a friend who joined in fall 2008, and as a free member, he has yet to earn a showdown token. Is this an error, or is it a rule/policy that was changed between the time I joined and when he joined?
