APRIL BOOK SELECTION

So far, we have a nomination for "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb.

Please place any other nominations on this thread and we'll vote tomorrow, as April is almost upon us.

I'd like to nominate A Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier. I am just starting it and it seems great!

She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb

Oprah Book Club Selection in 1997

"In this engaging first novel, narrator Dolores Price recounts her life story from age four to age 40; her relentless parade of disasters makes for interesting reading." - Publishers Weekly

416 pages Published in 1999 Amazon readers rate this four out of five stars

A Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier

"In a not-so-distant future, a deadly virus kills off every human on Earth, except for Laura Byrd, a wildlife specialist on an exploration to the South Pole. Readers quickly learn that the dead move on to another life in a fantastic city on another plane of existence...Brockmeier's haunting reminder of how connected people are to one another will appeal to readers of fantasy yearning for a bit more to think about than the usual fare offers."

272 pages Published in 2007 Amazon readers rate this three and a half out of five stars

I've read She's Come Undone, so I'd also vote for BHotD.

'I've (obviously) read She's Come Undone, too, so let's go with the other option.

I am still interested in something by Flannery O'Connor. Did you want to read one of her novels, or collections of short stories?

After that, I would like to recommend "Nine Stories" by J.D. Salinger, one of my favorites of all time.

Maybe a thread dedicated solely to book recommendations?

I think I've read she's come undone. I'll try the other.

And our first selection is -- drumroll -- A Brief History of the Dead!

Flannery O'Connor is great no matter which form she takes, but personally I love her collections of short stories the best.

This will be fun!

Hey, Everybody!

How are you coming along on your reading? The deadline is fast approaching, and none of us have posted anything for quite some time.

Do some of us need some more time before we open the book discussion? It's our first time, so we can certainly cut ourselves a little slack if desired.

Oh dear. This is the 2nd book club whose April book I didn't read. I had very good intentions, but no time - and May looks even worse. But don't kick me out yet!

No sweat, Ladies! We'll kick off the book discussion in May. That'll give everyone more time to read it.

Hi group! Just found you! I've read all of Wally Lamb, and loved him and given him for gifts, but it's been a few years and I don't think I'm up for a re-read, though if you ever decide to do it, I'll happily join the discussion.

A Brief History of the Dead sounds most intriguing. I'll pick it up right away!

Way cool!
