TRIVIA QUIZ RATINGS - APOLOGIES FROM A NEWBIE

Hi,
I've been a Sploofuser now for three weeks, after accepting an invitation from a friend to join. Some of the first trivia quizzes I took related to Star Trek and were authored by Falonanjel, and I've enjoyed those immensely. I also have to say that I was surprised to learn (via one of these threads) that he only recently got into Star Trek, since I think his Star Trek quizzes are really well-written.

Anyway, while I was still very new here, I believe I rated two or three quizzes as "needs work." (I don't remember which ones.) At the time, they were honest ratings for me, i.e. to me, "needs work" meant "good quiz, but you need to tweak a little."

Later, though, as I began to read forum threads, I began to realize that I hadn't understood the system here, and so my ratings were overly harsh when I didn't intend them to be.

I came across a thread having to do with trivia quiz ratings, and various people said that they generally give authors at least a 6 to reward them for the effort that goes into design, research, writing, and then if they think the quiz needs work, they'll say so in a PM.

When I read that, I realized I agreed with that approach and felt really bad about those few low ratings I'd given, and I'd like to apologize to the authors. (I assume the authors can see who takes their quizzes and how each person rates them.)

I've now taken 78 quizzes and look forward to many more, and thanks to all the authors!

Great explanation!

Since you're a cat according to your profile- you still have multiple lives left here on Sploofus Island.

Welcome to the new and improved Sploofus.

Hi and thanks for the welcomes! I've already met several nice people here, including Rjenson, Billkozy, Oldcougar and others. The island seems to be a great community.

"Since you're a cat according to your profile- you still have multiple lives left here on Sploofus Island."

ROFL Well, some people think I was a cat in another life because I don't like rain and will do almost anything to avoid going out in it. Anyway, it's nice to know you can screw up here and get second chances. As for my cats, they're kind enough to let me play Sploofus when they're not demanding my lap.

Thanks again for rolling out the welcome mat!

I did the same thing as newbie Geri! No worries, you figure out a better system and you move on.

Tresgatos, just to respond to a point you made in your original post, the only way an author can see what you have rated their quiz is if you are the very first person to take it.

Welcome to the island.

And remember, if you feel guilty, you can always make it up to the authors by taking some of their other good quizzes and rating them generously.

Or you can bomb all 42,000 other Sploofusers and even things out. It's your call.

Jeremy, thanks, it makes me feel better knowing you did the same thing at first. And your doggies are adorable!

Alistair, thanks for the clarification. Wow, you've written a lot of quizzes! I'll have to take some!

Ken, yeah, I do feel bad, but I don't remember which quizzes I rated "needs work." Those quizzes didn't stick in my mind as being "poor," because as I said, I actually thought they were good but just needed some tweaking. I've gone through my quiz history for the first week I was here, but nothing has jogged my memory so far. But your idea is a good one, thanks. Also, the photos of your critters in your profile are sweet. My cat Luke is sitting on my lap as I type this. He says, "No more WRs or WMs today!"

LOL. Well, I've got some bottles of Nantucket Nectars pomegranate cherry -- how about that?
