HAPPY NEW SEASON!

Unless you're cheering for the Jays or Yanks, then you have to wait one more day ...

Yeah, as a Cardinal fan, I feel like I missed out yesterday.

Did you see the article about the salaries of the players for the Florida Marlins -total payroll about $21 mill, and three of the Yankees make more than that individually (A-Rod, Jeter and Giambi). The odd thing is that in the past 10 years, the Yankees have won no World Series and the Marlins have won two.

Love baseball, but something is wrong here.

Very true. The bad thing about having players that you pay that much for is that you expect them to do something for that money. Low payrolls definitely pay off some times - no expectations, less pressure.

I was not very happy when a number of "experts" picked the Cubs to get to the World Series this year. It gets both my irrational hopes and stress levels way up.

Well, talk to the Boston fans, they probably felt the same way. You're time is coming...
Look at it this way, at least you're not a Ranger fan. I'm hoping Nolan Ryan will fix things.

Very true.

I feel much better about the Cubs after today's game, though. Still a long way away from confident.

I got to see Nolan pitch once against the Angels very near the end of his career. That was a great game to watch. Sometimes it is fun to go to games where you don't particularly care which teams win. I never really warmed up to the Dodgers the whole time I lived in L.A., but went to a lot of games.

It's still early. It's a LOOOONG season, and even if someone is in a slump, they've always got a chance to pull it out after the All Star break and hit a win streak. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the Cubbies.

Big fan of the way Kyle Lohse is pitching so far. Loving Rick Ankiel as well. The Cardinals won't be able to keep this up with a piecemeal rotation, but I love how they're at least in the discussion.
