Ok. You guys may have discussed this before and I missed it because it didn't apply to me. But I have a new laptop with Vista, and even though I don't think of myself as someone with a murderous temper, I'm discovering levels of frustration to outright anger I've not experienced before. It it driving me crazy with the questions and the suggestions, and what I have to go through just to do the most menial of tasks. I just wanna do my work and I want it to leave me alone!!!!

Is everyone else enjoying your Vista, or does anyone else feel the need to join a Vista anger management support group?

Mon, 31st Mar '08 7:02 PM mine a few weeks ago. I had some "growing pains" because I am SO used to XP. So far, now that I've turned off every DAMN pop-up blocker and built in security system, so good.

Give it a week or so....

Vista sucks. My husband just got it and it is full of problems. One thing he found is the zip program sucks. It took an hour to unzip a file using Vista. He downloaded a free program called 7-Zip which unzips them in seconds. He loves it. Here is the website. Maybe that will help.

I've had Vista on a Dell Desktop for about a year, and I really love it. I'm not a computer expert, so may not have encountered some of the problems others have since they may perform different or more tasks that I do, but it does all I need it to do for me, and once I got used to it I like it better than XP.

I agree with Redwing! Vista is a "BIG" pain in the bottom!

P.S. I hear complaints every day, all day behind Vista.

We bought a new pc last weekend with Vista Home Premium on it, which I guess is different from Vista Basic? So far I love it. I think it's just a matter of getting used to things. I don't see any performance or speed degradation and right now I appreciate the hints and such I'm getting.

Sorry you're not enjoying yours!

I recently had my trusty, dusty old computer upgraded by a well respected local computer shop. When I asked about Vista he replied, "I don't install Vista because of the problems,,,stick with XP". I did and I'm glad.

I would not recommend Vista! Tons of problems...

I have home premium too - I thought it was the same as basic - is there a difference, and what is that difference?

It's not that I'm finding problems. It's that I can't type a line without a popup window trying to tell me about some help it has. It's constantly interrupting! And it downloads updates and decides on its own to takeover and reboot with no warning and I lose what I'm working on - or if it DOES let me know, it's buried under other windows I'm working with and I'm caught unguarded. It's like HAL instead of just being a help - it's like IT OWNS ME!!!!

Mitchy is a Computer Tech! She may know! Mine is Windows Home Basic, and I don't know if there is a difference, but I like mine. I do know about the interruptions from downloading some Firewalls & Anti-spyware programs which drive you up the wall popping up all of the time. Some are a lot more intrusive than others. Hope you find the answers you need.

You know, there is this really cool OS.

I think it's called Mac, or apple or something like that.

Maybe it's in the way one sets it up - I haven't had an issue with the pop-ups.

Foogs - Mac has always been my favorite!

Turn off every damn security program Vista has. Rely on your own and your ISPs.

You'lll be fine and sleep well.

Thank you so much for the advice. Hope it works! Cause I don't know how to replace a window pane after this thing goes flying out in the backyard!

I just got a new Dell and refused to get Vista on it. They installed XP. Its been incompatible with several things, including printer drivers. My sister said she couldn't get her bookkeeping software to work with Vista and returned a new computer because of it.

We won't use it in our department yet until all the bugs are worked out.

There are several Editions of Vista: Basic, Premium, Business & Ultimate.
Just like Xp: Home, Professional, Media Center, Tablet PC & Professional x64 Editions.
Features are the difference.
Kinda like Cars.... for example: Camaro and Z28, Fire Bird and Trans-am.
The difference is The motor in the Z28 is bigger & has more power than the Camaro!
"Accessories" Here is another example: Power Windows vs. Manual,
Power Steering, AC, Cruise, Etc..
My personal definition; "MORE STUFF" such as features, memory, speed, etc.

Hope this helps!

Yes, it does. Kind of. I assumed basic and business up from that. Didn't realize there was the premium intermediary stage. Thanks.

Maybe I've just been lucky - I haven't had any problems with printer drivers either.

If I recall, when XP was released everybody complained about it, too. But now everybody loves it.

Thanks for the info, Mitchy - and we ARE resistant to change, aren't we?

Blessings, everybody!
