I have a question about rating. By what criteria should we do our ratings? We are cautioned not to rate on the basis of how well we did. So do we rate on the quality of language? The cleverness of the clues? I could find the clues clever but do lousy. I could do well because the quiz to me is very simple. Your thoughts.

I rate on the content and effort the author put in the quiz, regardless of my score. You can tell when someone has done their "homework" in preparing a quiz, rather than pasting something off the web.

I think most quizzes here are "pretty fun" and that means a 7 from me. If someone has bad grammar, typos, facts wrong, then I go lower. Fill-in-the-blanks get no higher than a 6. They are usually simple to make and require no original content. I rarely take them anyway.

I give 8s and 9s on rare occasion. I love a quiz that has clever wording or that teaches me something new. When the writer has a sense of humor showcased within a challenging quiz, I rate a big, fat 9. :D

Yeah, what Violet said.

I personally don't like the fill in the blank quizzes and rarely take them. They don't call for any effort on the part of the constructor. I like the quizzes in which the writer has really made an effort - either because it is interesting, funny, clever, or something like that - and I give those quizzes higher ratings.

Then there are the others, which, despite the editors best efforts, contain massive errors. I also don't like the ones where it was clear that the constructor couldn't think of a 4th or 5th choice, and has instead substituted dumb choices. Those quizzes get lower grades from me.

I like to rate by how well the quiz was made, no matter the subject - it could be interesting just by how the author made it. I try not to take the easy quizzes, or the ones that have a topic that is covered a hundred times already. It takes time to make something interesting, unusual, or just informative.
However, most people on here seem to rate by how well they do...for example, all of my quizzes seem to be hard, and I put time into making them...when they first appear on Sploofus, I get about a dozen takers at first, and the rating is usually a high 7 overall...but after more people take the quiz, the rating drops to low 6 or even 5. Clearly because all of the takers score lower than 50%!

Here is my 2 cents...and this is a subject of much agony for me as well.

Aside from the "cut and paste"...FITB...Quizzes I have seen 43 million times...I have a hard time not rating something "pretty fun"...if I learned something.

If it was things/stuff I already knew...I wouldn't be taking the quiz anyway. Not here to bolster my self-confidence...that is what my therapist is for!!

If someone puts in the time to make a decent quiz...and it makes you think..."Decent" is a mediocre is a quiz not "pretty fun" when you learn something?

When it is utterly frustrating and I had to blindly guess every single answer it is hard to say it was "pretty fun"! In that case, I tend to rate an 8 because the author so totally stumped me!!

I'd rather see some ratings like "impossibly hard, but well-written!" or "really simple but fun and entertaining"

Generally I rate things as 'pretty fun'. If there are errors in the quiz I mark it lower. If I do one on a subject I know a bit about and I score low (provided I feel the original description was accurate) I will rate that 'Amazing'.
