WHERE THE HECK AM I (IN 2.0)

Just a little confused, and not sure if it's "bug" or "support" worthy. It seems we don't have to specifically identify the location in the picture. If we just guess the city, we are correct? I've been noticing that lately with solved puzzles. The person guessed a city and the puzzle shows 'solved' with a specific location in that city. For example (and this in no way detracts from Ruth's win - way to go Ruth) this morning I logged on and saw that Ruth (Fitzy) guessed Florence, Italy and the solved message shows Santa Maria Del Fiore (which I'm assuming is IN Florence Italy).

Florence Cathedral. Must admit I'd also like to know exactly what is required for the answer - how exact does it have to be? It seemed to have to be spot on for the 'Toronto' puzzle! Editors can you advise please.

I was surprised by the answer being just "Florence, Italy". I assumed there was a specific place to be named (see previous wins). I was prepared to specifically name it but am glad I didn't have to (whew!)

How specific would you like the puzzles to be? Multiple answers can be listed as valid and they can be made very specific or not so specific. In the case of the last puzzle the various known names of the Cathedral were acceptable as well as the city where it's located. Only the first name on the list appears as the answer shown.

Sploofusmaximus,

In the case of the correct answer being "Havasu Falls", would Supai, Arizona been an acceptable answer? or for "the Hanging Church" perhaps, Saint Virgin Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church or Cairo, Egypt?

I would think that all these answers would be correct as the WTHAI answers currently stand, or am I wrong?

Hello Phitzy,

Yes, to your previous questions.

For these puzzles in particular the following answers would have worked:

havasu falls
supai, arizona
havasu creek
havasu canyon
supai
supai arizona

the hanging church
hanging church
cairo, egypt
cairo egypt
old cairo
cairo

The "correct answer variations" are defined by the WTHAI admin. Have fun!

Thank you,
Justin

Oh, well done! Well done indeed! Congrats, Phitz!

I figure if you know the name of the church you should automatically get credit for knowing it's in Florence!

No politician here Nelly. Just trying to get a feel for what members want to reach a happy medium. The puzzles should be solvable, but if they're too easy then they won't be any fun.

Thank you Justin and Sploofusmaximus. I agree - it's about trying to find the right balance, just needed to know whether we might have to waste 10 attempts just to get the wording right. Justin has clarified that.

Another quick question... where can I find the "WTHAI admin"? .. I know the rules for WTHAI are not rocket science but, since it was mentioned, I went looking for it out of curiousity but can't find it.

Justin meant the Administrators, ie Editors specifically working on keeping WTHAI afloat. There is nowhere for you to "find" it. If you have questions, concerns or suggestions for making WTHAI better, please submit bug or enhancement reports. We are still in the testing phase!

How often are the little squares removed? Is it timed or based on on how many guesses are made or what?

Then my answer of Earth was indeed correct. How many points is that, again?

The squares are removed at random time intervals.
