WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU LET A TQOTD EXPIRE?

I researched this question before posting it by reading through the FAQ and Survival Guide again, but couldn't find the answer. Basically what I'm wondering is this: If you're just not in the mood to answer one of your TQOTD and decide to let it expire, does this have any negative effect on your category proficieny earnings (star icons)? I also assume that you don't lose any points if you choose to let a question expire, just like if you answer incorrectly, you don't lose any points, right?

Thanks for any enlightenment on this!

hi...

i have had a few questions to expire but i didn't pay any attention if there was any effect on the category proficieny earnings or not.

i can however assure you that no points were lost when one expired.

Hi,
Even though I don't remember having any questions expire, b/c they're good for 10 days, I don't think that it counts against you. If you check 'Your Sploofus Command Ctr', you can see that the # of TQOTD's you have answered is given.

If you want to know for sure you could check that # before 1 of your questions expire. I doubt though, that an unanswered TQOTD would be included & therefore wouldn't count against you.
This interpretation is my own & I've never had to ask the editors for any specifics on this subject in the past.

Hi,
Thanks very much for the replies! Well, I can answer my own question now. I let a question on physical science expire, and I didn't lose my proficiency category badge, so I was pleased. I love science and so far have answered all those questions correctly, but for the most part, I've sucked at TQOTD. In part, the timer freaks me out, and sometimes I freeze. It's ridiculous. You'd think I was taking the GRE or MCAT or something. Anyway, since I'm new, it'll probably take me a long time to earn most of my proficiency badges.

The other day, I got yet another question in physical science (I seem to get that category a lot), and decided to go ahead and answer it and luckily got it right. I really want to keep the two badges I have, but on the other hand, the TQOTD is fun, and I enjoy learning new stuff, not to mention getting the points. So, I'll probably go ahead and risk losing the badges and not let any more expire. But it was an interesting experiment.

The longer you are sploofus the lower the threshold to get a badge. So even if a player continues to answer questions with the same accuracy the number of badges could increase.

the badges will disappear if your proficiency drops under 50%.. but you can earn them again by correctly answering more questions in the category.

one more point. the questions do not increase in difficulty as you ascend the levels. so level 1 and level 100 get questions distributed from the same pool of questions.

Thanks Sargon and Chyenn!

BTW, to save some of you folks effort, I should have said that I did read the following thread and assume the info therein is still accurate regarding the badges: http://www.sploofus.com/bbs_detail.sp?post=26041&cID=1

but as I said earlier, I couldn't find details on any possible negative consequences for letting a TQOTD expire; hence my experiment.

I see you're a veteran, so I know you know this from experience. I'm wondering, though, why it says this in the Sploofus Survival Guide: "Your Sploofus Trivia Question of the Day will become progressively more difficult as you advance in the game." Is the guide outdated? Stuff like this gets confusing for a newbie.
Thanks!

hi Geri.. yes it is confusing.. originally it was Justin's intent for the difficulty to increase... but it didn't work out that way.. a few months ago an editor commented about this but i could not find that post this morning. i will try to search for it again later today..

i am not a beta tester, so i can't access the new version, but i hope all these things have been explained clearly within the 2.0 version.
