CONGRATULATIONS TO ERIN !

Erin just became an auntie! Her sister just gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. What kind of advice do you have for her ? We want her to be the BEST auntie ever....like me!

Start keeping a diary of all the onery things her mommy did when she was little so you can tell that sweet baby as she gets older.

Or, if you want to be nice, be sure to get a nice glider-rocker so you can be prepared for frequent babysitting.

OMG! Erin and I have been so busy being excited for ourselves that we neglected the one that did all the work all day and night, the mommy! Erin's sister is Shannon, known to the Sploofus world as sarnett75. Congrats to the new mommy

Congrats. Aunt is one of the best jobs around.

OK. Here is my advice. If you're ever living in Texas, and there is a blue, dusty sky with a straight wind speed of 75 mph, and you're babysitting, be sure to have pillows, blankets, and sofa cushions to cover everybody with in case the windows blow in. That was my experience in Canyon, TX, in the summer of 1973 as I was babysitting my nieces. And I couldn't take them home as it wasn't even safe to open the door. Yes...have plenty of pillows and blankets.

I do smile when I dream of you, man-cat, but only after I've heard the thud....

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, they are both still doing fine.

Being an aunt or grandmother is the BEST job. You can spoil them and send them home!

Her name is Scarlett Elise, the first grandchild for my parents. She was 3 weeks and 3 days, but still weighed a good 6lbs 7oz at birth. My mother had large babies, the smallest at 8lbs and change, the largest, over 10 pounds! After a few minor issues, she is home and doing great, with just a bit of jaundice. Sarnett75, my sister, is healing and will be sploofusing again once she gets her schedule adjusted. I'll be going to GA next week for my turn to visit and help, so if anyone would like to share words of wisdom or parenting advice, I'd love to pass it along.

I can't wait for her to get older so I can tell her all the awful and scandalous things her mommy did.

Hearty congrats to your family from myself and Relsbabyblue. Fantastic name btw.
OK. Having considered for a while - here's my advice:
Once you get over the panic of having total responsibility for such a precious bundle - enjoy. They aren't babies very long and you probably AREN'T going to kill them with your ham-fisted attempts at child-care.
DON'T get addicted to that new baby smell. It's extremely dangerous - you'll soon find your house has turned into a human zoo when you've got several of the little angels running round. (Awwwww - Go on - just ONE more....pleeeeeze?)
Remember - you are human, and will make mistakes and bad judgement calls. Forgive yourself for them and move on....Don't sweat it. She won't even remember the time when you turned your back for one second and she wriggled out of the bouncy chair.
Sleep - when you can....this is VERY important. The little monsters can spot your weaknesses and will break you like a twig if they spot you yawning because you've only had a couple of hours sleep in two days.
Don't make your first grow up too fast. You can't make up for it by keeping the others babies longer.
Tell your kids that you love them as often as you can. Even when they've just flushed another facecloth down the toilet and flooded the bathroom (again). They're just curious!
Laugh, sing and play with them every day. it keeps you young.
That's just a taster, a few nuggets if you will. Hope your visit goes swimmingly. Remember though. You may get to tell stories about your sister when you visit......BUT once you've gone, bigger and better stories will be told about YOU - and you won't have the chance of rebuttal! (ask my siblings hehehehe). For the record, in case anybody ever hears - sisters (well mine anyway) are notorious liars. NEVER did I fart on their sandwiches - NEVER - NOT ONCE - despite the many times they tell that story. I deny it - vehemently....they can't prove it........
