WTHAI - BUGS AGAIN!!

WTG Redwingchick ......
but I'm peeved, I guessed this on the 1st tile - the 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th guesses from the start Even sent in a support ticket because I was so convinced there must be a glitch!

Oh man, I see that. The only difference I see is the little thingee above the "i" but I wouldn't think that would make a difference since the the little thingee is accurate. Sorry! I am sure they will make it right.

I'd just come to the same conclusion, but then you'd think an Icelandic word should have the accent. lol.

Anyway, Congrats again!

I got Neuschwanstein Castle right t'other day as well..........but because I added "Bavaria" my guess was counted as wrong. However, I guess they are trying to get a few "close" guesses to make a right'un?

If I think I'm right, or even close, I'll submit more than one way to say my guess. Think we should try to cover all of the bases if we're on to something. Maybe we should be careful with punctuation. Should we have any at all in our guesses?

I was so sure - I put it in 5 different ways Susan and sent in a support ticket, before the end of the puzzle, when it didn't take them!

Again, not a bug. Now that the WTHAI have taken over the naming of the puzzles, we are learning what does and doesn't work well. The accent was left of the name of the church because honestly, I wasn't sure if the system would accept it and/or users would know how to include it. So for simplicity's sake, it was left off. Apologies to Nelly, who was given credit for guessing first. From now on we will try and include names/places with weird characters both with and without the characters.

When it comes to making guesses for the puzzles, we are trying to include all possibilities and combinations - both with and without punctuation. We are seeing what does and doesn't work well. I cannot give you a hard and fast rule for how specific or not specific to be since each puzzle is looked at individually based on how difficult it may or may not be. In general, though, the simplest answers will most likely be covered. So buildings and structures will almost always be listed as the building/structure name alone and the city may or may not be listed separately. Listing of the city will depend on how well-known the city is. For example, if the picture is the Eiffel Tower, you would have to guess the Eiffel Tower because Paris is just too common of a random guess on its own. On the other hand, for the Neuschwanstein puzzle, you could have entered the city name, Hohenschwangau, by itself. If you know and guessed that city name, then chances are you really know the structure and aren't just guessing.

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the beta testing.

Thank you Sploofusmaximus! My husband is very pleased as I had a bit of a 'bee in my bonnet' about that one from the time I entered my guess and he's had to put up with me for a few hours now!

Question from a weird character:

How do we get weird characters to appear in the names if that is what the answer is? Sorry I'm just not sure- is it in the font somehow?

YEY!

I'm happy you got credit Nelly-I saw that.

You should get credit just for spelling that one!

Way beyond me.

I have no trouble making the weird characters on my mac
é ø î ñ ü - it's a simple combination of keys:
alt-e then e makes é
but I have no idea how to make them on a PC. When I am at work (on a Dell) I can't put the ~ over my students' names

Susan, in regard to your Dell pc - have you tried the "insert" heading on your tool bar. You can insert almost any kind of symbol if you are using a Dell pc.
I always have to insert the symbols in my Word documents and have gotten quite used to it now. (ex: Renee or Manuel). Can't do it on the Sploofus puzzles though.

Two ways to do it. One, open up Word and use the Insert Symbol function, then copy/paste. Second, find a website with the name spelled, complete with the funky character, and copy/paste it.

The easy way to do it is by copying the name from Wikipedia, Google or whatever and pasting it into the answer box.

Copy by highlighting the name and press Control C. Paste by moving the cursor to where you want to insert the copied text and press Control V.

E.g., Hallgrímskirkja, Jökulsárgljúfur National Park and Snæfellsjökull are all in Iceland. Hope that works.
