EDITOR FOR WHERE THE HECK AM I

First I would like to congratulate Oogie54 for winning the Where The Heck Am I for Mount Ararat!

My question to the editor is I entered a guess of Mt. Ararat on #263, and since I abbreviated the Mount as Mt. did it not qualify? Is it just that the system didn't pick it up? Please check and let me know! I would have sent a Support Ticket, but didn't see one for this category, and it asked for my name on the form also, which had never happened before. Did it mean my real name or User Name?

Thanks for your help!

Marilyn...

Hey, Marilyn, I had noticed that you guessed Mt. Ararat earlier and that's why I didn't guess it.
I can see now why Slicko typed out several versions of Hagia Sophia on the previous "where."

(congrats to Oogie, by the way)

Thanks, a bunch, Sploofusmaximus! That makes looking at those 2,000 + mountains worth it.

Since we are still in Beta Testing, we are still exploring the best ways to input acceptable answers for these puzzles. Right now the editor who puts in a photo has to type in every possible variation of the answer that will be accepted:

Mount Ararat
Mt Ararat
Mt. Ararat
Ararat Mountain
and any others they can think of.

If we just happen to miss (or not think of) the one that you input, it registers as wrong. Right now we are discussing having NO punctuation (just like in WPs) to avoid at least that one issue. We have also decided not to accept a city and country alone unless the city is remote or obscure.

So for now, please try every variation you can think of, and keep sending your enhancement suggestions to the Bug reporting system.

And remember that submitting a bug or enhancement report (with the green bug icon) is not the same as submitting a Support Ticket (by clicking on HELP) - they are not used for the same purpose or handled in the same manner.

WTG on your correct guess, Marilyn!

Still this raises the question of semantics...correct? Incorrect? depends on how it's written or coded?

Marilyn, you rock!

If I had unlimited guesses, like we used to get back in the day, I would be willing to try different versions of things, but when your guesses are limited, if you see a previous wrong guess, you don't want to waste one of your moves reguessing something that's already been proven as incorrect. At least that's how I feel.

I understand your point, Eesus. All I can suggest is that if you think you know the answer, verify the place with a google search. That way you really know the place instead of just guessing or second-guessing if there's already been a similar incorrect guess.

An additional suggestion is to check the wikipedia listing for what you think the place is. The link to information about the person/place once solved is a wikipedia link. Since wikipedia must be checked before the place is listed, chances are, however wikipedia lists it will at least be one of the possibilities.

Additional information about this from the editors. I sent in a Support Ticket on mine last night.

Verify the place with a google search? How do you pass google a couple hundred pixels? Is that what I've been missing?
