Yes we can write quizzes, but we can not edit our own quizzes. They are also published under our regular sploofus usernames.

Along those same lines: Do editors take the quizzes too?
Just curious

Yes - we take quizzes too, but we generally do NOT take the quizzes that we have edited, unless there is some reason we need to recheck something after it has been launched.

We are regular players, as we all were before being asked to volunteer as editors. We also author WordPuzzles and TQOTD...but we are never given our own questions.

Justin is a genius with writing the code/scripts for the way Sploofus operates and keeps things as fair as possible.

In the works are ways for us to edit our WordPuzzles after they have been authored (currently we have no way to go back and double check for errors or make corrections), and we are always coming up with ideas to make the editing process easier/smoother/more consistent.

Just wanted to add an explanation to the comment by Sploofizz. When we edit a quiz we do not know which answer choice is the correct answer, so even if we do take a quiz we have edited, we do not know any of the answers ahead of time.

I didn't know the editors were also regular players under a different name. I hope none of you are some of the players who have been poopy to me or other sploofus players. I had one sploofuser respond quite negatively about something he had wrong on his quiz and then he went through all of my quizzes and scored them all a 1. I would feel uncomfortable with such a person have the powers of being an editor. But I'm sure the head dude chooses wisely.

We are all players of Sploofus first and foremost. We all love it here very much and want the site to continue to develop. Sploofus (the guy) would never let us berate or bomb another player.

I hit 'send' too soon! Sorry.

What I meant to say is that we would never be allowed to stay on as an editor if we acted in such a petty way, but all of us are a pretty nice group anyway.

We editors have our own message board where we discuss things like the ratings bombers, and how to better reward good quizzes (hence the new Editors Awards!).

We get very angry about the cheaters, bombers and plagiarisers - also the bad spellers and poor grammarians! We are all very dedicated to making Sploofus a fun, fair and educational website

Do all of the quiz editors know who each other are? And if so, are quiz editors, under their regular player names, eligible for the new Quiz Editor Awards?

Does it bother you that some editors' quizzes may receive Editor's Awards?

Yes we know each other's regular user names and sploofus editor alias names. We do NOT know each other outside of the virtual world.

We have nothing to gain by awarding our Editor's Awards to anyone in particular and never edit (or award) our own quizzes.

All quizzes are up for possible awarding. But you have to trust me when I tell you that we tend to hold our fellow editors to a bit of a higher standard.

And bottom line: don't you WANT the editors to be among the better quiz writers here? I mean, if we are helping others to uphold the standards that Sploofus has set, shouldn't we be models of those standards ourselves?

I didn't think I added any tone to my questions that would cause anyone to be defensive. I was just curious. I do think the editors should be of very high moral aptitude if they are also regular sploofusers against whom we all compete as well. And by asking questions, I did not mean to imply that they weren't. As a paying member here, I'm just trying to figure out how it all works. If its none of my business, just let me know.

I didn't think your message had a negative tone...I am truly curious what members think about the editors, their duties and if anyone (not necessarily you) feels that the editors are in any way unfair.

I am happy to answer any questions you have about what we do or how we do it

Just adding my two cents...I don't think these questions are inappropriate and I can understand the curiosity.

Editors can write quizzes and take quizzes. We also write Word Puzzles and TQOTDs. We cannot take our own Word Puzzles and we don't get our own TQOTDs to answer, so there's no "cheating" issue there. (And if some editor were to reveal the answer to a TQOTD in the editor chat, the result would be the same as if any regular user had done it in regular chat: account termination, after one warning [as I understand it].)

Editors can give the award to other editors' quizzes, of course. Why shouldn't we be able to? Editors, who are volunteers after all, shouldn't be penalized for their hard work in helping Justin keep the site running smoothly by not being eligible for awards.

Obviously, this raises the spectre of editor nepotism, but I can assure you that it just doesn't happen, and if it did, Sploofus would clean house very quickly. There's simply no tolerance for bad editor behavior. Fortunately, as I said in another post in another thread, Justin did a great job in selecting the editors and none have even come close to behaving badly. There is definitely an honor system in place, and woe be to the editor who ever abuses it (not that any of them would), because the rest of us will come down on them like a ton of turd-bugs.

Thanks Sploofinator. Well put and helpful to clear up some of the sploofysteries. I don't know where you live, but I want to stay away from there. A ton of turd-bugs? No thanks!

Now now, why have the Turdbugs been so prejudiced? I personally love my little turdbug. I named him Theobromine...Theo brings me the bad news when I've incorrectly answered a TQOTD. Did it ever occur to anyone that he doesnt have the easiest job on the site? Poor turdbugs...
