I do not like the new scoring system at all. There is a disadvantage for someone who is not familiar with the puzzle's category and still wants to play. I think there should be a vote to see how the majority feels.

I like the new scoring system so count me as a Thumbs Up for the new.

Yup, I like the new scoring system just peachy-fine, thank you Ma'am.
(I still yell a lot when I get one wrong though )

I have mixed feelings. But I do make a lot more points per word puzzle than I used to. I used to fill in all the letters and go for total points per letter rather than worry about being in the top ten. I think the most I ever made was 1800 or so points. This way, I make way more each word puzzle. But then so does everyone else so its kind of point inflation.

I agree - I love the new system, but the points seem quite inflated. Especially compared with what you can earn from authoring a quiz.

Unless you make it into the top ten it is very rare to get 100 people to take a quiz...usually less than 50! So putting in time to write a decent quiz rarely earns one over 4000 points, but one quick word puzzle almost always does! This just doesn't feel equitable to me.

I like this new scoring system, I can get a lot more points for the word puzzles than I used to get. I am not familiar with every category, but that is what makes it fun.

Correct me if I am don't actually get the points from your initial 5,000. At least I haven't. You still get the same old points you used to get...unless Sploofus is e-mailing me the wrong # of points.

You get what's left of your 5000 points..the email is your bonus points based on your final least that's my understanding!

Yes, you get whatever is left of your 5,000 points right away, and then afterwards you get points based on your ranking. That number is what's e-mailed to you.

Scenario of the new system:
One player has a great round and legitimately gets all 5 puzzles in 25 moves in 400 seconds, missing 5 letters for a final score of 4,500 and a ranking of #8.
Then I come along and do the 5 puzzles in 52 moves in 1,500 seconds, missing 3 letters for a final score of 4,700 and a ranking of #90.
Player one gets his 300 ranking points, I get my 150.
Player one, who did the puzzles with half the moves in one third the time, ends up with 4,800 points, while I end up with 4,850.
Go figure.
Multiple intersecting levels of structural problems there, wouldncha think?

I really like the new system, much more fun that before. At least now I try my best instead of just filling in all the letters. Since I have never been in the top 10 I didn't realize that they didn't get more points for doing well. That does not seem fair, although I see Mr. Sploofus' point.

The new scoring system is definately a win for me. I may not make it in the top 3 but I can challenge myself to not guess any wrong letters and get the whole 5000. I actually even did it once. Felt great.
