WTHAI: NICE TO WIN, BUT PLEASE...

...be sure to credit Dutchman for getting Thelonious Monk, with a slightly altered spelling.

Congratulations, Rev!

I think he spelled it the same, just didn't capitalize the first letters.

I see I left out the "o" in the first name. That's life. There's a big difference between Tim Cruise and Tom Cruise.

I see that now, Tom! Missed it the first time!

spelling counts
capitalization does not count (we type "Tom Cruise"; you type "tom cruise" you win)
it should be fixed now so punctuation does not matter either (we type "New York, N.Y."; you type "new york ny" you win)
spaces DO count (so "USA" is not the same thing as "U S A"

Thanks Sploofizz, and sorry about that, Dutchman!

Now, I can't wait to see where the heck the current mudhole is for the other puzzle! I'm flummoxed!

Absolutely spelling should count. As a retired English teacher I support you guys all the way. I was dumb for not verifying the spelling before submitting the answer. Lesson learned. I can't wait to see what the location is, too! How long will they let it go unanswered?

We have a new "hint" system in place. I put up a hint and three guesses later it was over. Next time I will be much more obtuse with my hint!

The WTHAI Administrators decided that no hints would be given until all 12 tiles were off, and the guesses were over 300, but this one had been up for over 24 hours so I went ahead with a hint this time.

The heck with worrying about winning WTHAI -- I would just like to know who they are once their name is revealed. i've never heard of most of these people.

Pat, if you click on the name/place on the right side of the page (where all previous answers list is), it will take you to the wiki page (or other, but mostly wiki) with info on that person or place.

If you click on the correct answer in the right hand column, you are taken to the Wikipedia article about that subject. (I, too, have never heard of most of these people/places, and I appreciate getting to learn about them.

What I would like to see added is a link back to the original photo that was used in the puzzle. Sometimes, the Wiki article has no photo -- or an entirely different one. If I have only seen a couple of revealed tiles, I'd really like to see the final "reveal." Sometimes, we are only seeing a portion of a photo. For example, in some random surfing, I happened to come across the photo of Bartles and Jaymes which was used in the Ed Jaymes(Dick Maug) puzzle which did have both the Bartles and Jaymes characters in it although we had only seen half of the photo in the puzzle..

Sploofizz: Thanks so much for the updated "hint" system. Obviously, most of us had plumb run out of guesses, but it turned out to be a pretty neat location!

This is becoming a great opportunity to learn geographic minutae ... or at least to learn how much we DON'T know. thanks!

Sploofizz, where will we find the hint? Will it be in the wrong guesses?

I saw the hint when it came up last night, for all the good it did me. It showed toward the top of the page, in the same spot where the answer shows when someone's guessed it correctly. Hints will be hard to miss.

It's part of hte new and improved Sploofus. Alas, because chunks of it are still buggy, it's in Beta testing.

Many when the Who/Where THAI are open to the body public, there's gonna be some major guessing for the points!
