ADD A NUMBER

Here is a new activity in the same vein as the Neverending Activity thread. I will start by say something relevant to the number One. The next person does the number Two, and so on...

Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

or,

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

That's what you get for jumping on the bed.

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I
think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...
...and you finish off as an orgasm.”

- George Carlin

One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty.

Slow down, you're movin' too fast
You gotta make the mornin' last
Just kickin' down the cobblestones
Lookin' for fun and
Feelin' groovy____________

Hello lampost
Whatcha knowin?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'
Ain'tcha got no rhymes for me?
Doo Bee Doo Doo,
Feelin' groovy____________

Got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morningtime drop all its petals on me...
Life, I love you,
All is groovy____________________

Psalm 113

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord;
praise the name of the Lord.

2Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time on and for evermore.
3From the rising of the sun to its setting
the name of the Lord is to be praised.
4The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the Lord our God,
who is seated on high,
6who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
7He raises the poor from the dust,
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
9He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

We missed 139 -- but hackers don't

Port 139 NetBIOS is the most dangerous port on Windows machines while on the Internet. All "File and Printer Sharing" uses this port. It is the first place hackers attempt to connect to when hacking your machine online. Firewalls are designed to protect it, but about 10% of us leave it unguarded.

Be ye forewarned.

Air-India Flight 182 was en-route to New Delhi and Bombay, India via London Heathrow from Montreal, Canada. As it entered the airspace over the Atlantic Ocean on the South coast of Ireland on June 23, 1985, the Boeing 747 was destroyed while at an altitude of 31,000 feet (9500 m). All 329 people on board were killed, which included 280 Canadian citizens and 136 children.

Until September 11, 2001, the Air India bombing was the single deadliest terrorist attack involving aircraft. It also remains to this day the largest mass murder in Canadian history.

Let me pause to say I'm truly impressed by the collection of numerical ruminations here!

Now for a sad one....Delta Flight 191 crashed in August of 1985 while on approach to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. This crash was one that led to increased attention microburst-induced wind shear ... and one of the reasons Doppler radar is everywhere now.

AD 220 was year 1170 on the Berber calender which is fixed to the accession year of the 10th century BC Egyptian Pharaoh Shoshenq I, who they identified as the first prominent Berber in history (he is recorded as being of Libyan origin). The Académie berbère set the zero year at 950 BC (a common estimate of the accession year of Shoshenq).

Yep! Which brings us to the mysterious Area Code 223....

About a year ago, people with cell phones began receiving calls from unknown people at Area Code 223...which is strange, because if you look at the listing of Area Codes in the U.S., that number isn't yet in service. Instead it's the country code for Mali, Africa, where scammers were calling numbers they had collected on on-line employment sites. They attempted to get people to "sign up" for job fairs that didn't exist, charging them for the honor.

240 is a semiperfect number.

240 can be expressed as a sum of consecutive primes in two different ways: 240 = 53 + 59 + 61 + 67 = 17 + 19 + 23 + 29 + 31 + 37 + 41 + 43. It can also be expressed as the product of two consecutive integers, 15 and 16, thus 240 is a pronic number.

US-281 starts at the Mexican border in Brownsville, Texas and runs nearly due north to the Canadian border, where it ends at the International Peace Garden. I highly recommend a visit to this garden operated by the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). It is truly one of the most beautiful, peaceful places man has created on Earth.

... who had the French National Anthem named after him. If I hadn't slept too long, I'd say that 296 feet was the pre-1973 distance to the right field foul pole at Yankee Stadium, but I guess I'll instead say that 297 is a Kaprekar number, because 297 squared is 88,209, and 88 + 209 = 297. Amazing, eh?

314-- Area code 314 was one of the original area codes created in October 1947 and served as the area code for most of eastern Missouri until it was split on January 7, 1996, with area code 573. 314 was again split on May 22, 1999, when area code 636 was assigned to the rapidly growing outer suburbs. A.D. 381

First Council of Constantinople agrees to this:

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost and the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the Right Hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead. Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And [we believe] in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver-of-Life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And [we believe] in one, holy, (II) Catholic and Apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, [and] we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

4′33″ (Four minutes, thirty-three seconds) is a three-movement composition[1][2] by American avant-garde composer John Cage (1912–1992). It was composed in 1952 for any instrument (or combination of instruments), and the score instructs the performer not to play the instrument during the entire duration of the piece. Although commonly perceived as "four minutes thirty-three seconds of silence",[3][4] the piece actually consists of the sounds of the environment that the listeners hear while it is performed.[5] Over the years, 4′33″ became Cage's most famous and most controversial composition.
