ALVANDY / YORK / POP CULTURE

Good grief! He's said it so many times that now it has permeated my subconscious.

So today, I'm rehearsing my 5th grade orchestra in preparation for contest the 7th of May. And out of the blue, this little girl says, "My head hurts."

I look at her funny (since of course there's not a blamed thing I can do about it - if I even gave her a cough drop I'd be fired for pushing drugs!) and I say, "York, Pennsylvania is the first capital of the US."

The kids all look at me funny and say something like, "What's that got to do with anything?"

But to me, since Al's tagline is so frequently tossed around Salty, and at the most obscure times, it's kind of like the kid in Jerry Maguire offhandedly saying, "The human head weighs 8 pounds."

Anyway, the little girl says, swear to God, "You know - that made my head feel better!"

So our friend's "York - First Capital" line enters the anals...uh, I mean, the annals of pop culture language.

Plus, apparently, Al's words have healing power from afar.

So - who doubts the permeating "aura" of York, PA now?

[Smaug- I now have my trademark!]

Thanks to Jank [JJ] for sharing this future "urban legend".
Hmmmm- I'm in the mood for a peppermint pattie.

They are untooning certain toons and making them look like people. They untooned Jessica Rabbit so I snagged the pic. It was much more attractive than the untooned Mario from Nintendo and the untooned Homer Simpson.

BTW, Kelly and I were both married on 3/12/94 and we both have children born on May 8th.

I'm definitely the mild mannered Clark Kent type - she's the weirdo in tights.

Being married to Kelly is disappointing. Neither one of us can reach the top shelf.

For anyone who sees the "Who's Kelly?" comment that crops up from time to time, a couple of years ago, or more, we were all having conversations in the shouts & the chats. I don't remember the particular discussion we were having but Kelly signed her name to a post, like she does from time to time, and a certain player (she who shall not be named) who is no longer here, posted "Who's Kelly?" The sad thing was that she was entirely serious. Keep in mind that there weren't the bazillions of people on Sploofus back in those days so we all knew each other fairly well. Anyhoo, its been a running joke for a number of years.

I was actually waiting for a comment like that. Never figured it would come from a snob like you though, Robin.

Not elitist. Haven't you been reading? It's snobbery.

I am seriousley considering making "York, PA" the offical motto of my classroom next year. If it cures headaches, then what can it do for test scores? What about writing skills? And....And.....Just imagine....

Yes! Taks is indeed next week. "York, PA" is my new Taks motto. "No Child Left Behind" has not done much for me. This new motto should improve things.

Thanks for the suggestion!

But...enob doesn't sound intimidating or negative - in fact, it just reminds me of those cute little furball inhabitants of Endor (Return of the Jedi).
