The first of two messages have been/are being sent out currently to the Platinum members who signed up. If you have not received a message yet, don't worry. We split up the work between several editors and some of those editors may not sign on until later. It won't affect your word puzzle at all. The first message is technical rules and guidelines for authoring the puzzles.

A couple points to mention as well. The first is say again that this is open to Platinum members only. We are still accepting names if any other Platinum members have not signed up yet but are interested.

In terms of scheduling, we have not yet worked out a complete schedule, but are aiming at having one run a day. With the number of members currently signed up, it will take over a month to run them all. We will try to let everyone know at least three days in advance of when their puzzle will run. But with some of the earliest ones, this may not be possible.

We are looking forward to everyone's submissions.

One last point, the second message, which will be coming soon, will be the actual submission form. Please do not send in your word puzzles until you receive that one.

If you have questions, you can post them here, or you can ask by replying to the Private Message we sent.

What kind of time frame are we looking for writing these?

Very soon. I don't want to put an exact date on it yet, but the first part of May.

Most of the second messages have now been sent. A response from one of the recipients made me realize that the wording at the beginning was not quite clear.

The submission window is now open, but you do not have to rush to compose your word puzzles. We have 49 signed up so it will take quite a while to run them all, so definitely no problem if you want to take a week or so to get it just how you want it.

How do we choose the topic for a puzzle? Any limitations or suggestions?

The puzzle can be about what ever you would like it to be about - within the usual confines of our family friendly website.

As far as suggestions for inspiration, my first word puzzle was something I knew well - "Things found in my parent's basement". I just basically did a bit of reminiscing. A number of my more successful word puzzles have been like that.

The nice thing is that they don't have to be complete thoughts - a list of names or images or factoids...

Can we write more than one puzzle????

AND does this mean we will get more than
two puzzles a day, in the near future????

Is there somewhere a list of WP topics already used so we can be sure our puzzle is authentic?

At this time, just write one WP and submit it to your editor-contact.

The editor will double-check your topic against the list to be sure it has not recently been covered, but the full list of past WPs is not available to you at this time.

Feel free to run an idea past your editor-contact if you want some feedback or to check old puzzles for duplication.

Make sure you keep the PMs from your editor: They are your communications link for all inquiries and correspondence you may have.

Editors who have sent out PMs to the players in their charge would appreciate acknowledgment of receipt of those PMs, please?

A note on length limits -

Be sure to count spaces as well as the characters in your titles and clues. Phrases are usually easier to keep under the limit if you are not trying to get too much information in. Titles and clues can be tricky.

I have a new respect for the editors. (AND I'm NOT being a suck up!) It is harder to do than you think. I have submitted mine.
It is at least funny.

Notes for WP authors:

* Please ensure that you have TEN clues and hints.
* Please write all the CLUES in lowercase with no punctuation.
* You may add capitals and punctuation to the HINT, though.
* Please don't make your WP titles, hints and clues too wordy: there is a character-limit of 30 for the title/80 for the clue. This INCLUDES spaces!
*Please include your Sploofus username in the WP title.

All the submissions are looking great, and will be a lot of fun for everybody!

Hi Sploofusaurus,
I apologize for being dense, but what's the difference between a "clue" and a "hint"? For example, for the quiz awhile back entitled, "Roll Out The Dessert Cart," some clues were:

Is one enough?
Another piece please!

These are clues, right? By a hint, do you mean something like what we had with the "Cheese Whiz" quiz, where Sploofishy told us that the last cheese in a phrase was two words, i.e.
3 American cheeses (last 2 words)?

Thanks for any clarification!

I believe my colleague meant to say PUZZLES rather than CLUES.

30 character limit for TITLES, including username
80 character limit for PUZZLES, 10 phrases needed, no caps or punctuation
24 character limit for CLUES (or HINTS), punctuation and numbers allowed
13 character limit per word

Sorry for the confusion.

I also meant to say that character limits INCLUDE spaces.

"In terms of scheduling, we have not yet worked out a complete schedule, but are aiming at having one run a day."

Looks like our responses have been so numerous, you've changed that to 2-a-days. Thanks for this opportunity.
