We have visitors in North Platte today from Ireland. There is either a series on now or in the works on the genealogy of current Irish celebrities. An Irish vocalist who goes by the single name of “Dana” traces her ancestry to relatives of Father McDaid, who established the Catholic School in our community in about 1910. In about 1960 I believe he retired to Ireland.

I'm hoping our reporters can get interviews with the film crew and the vocalist - if she is here, and it's my understanding she is supposed to be.

not often we get visitors from Ireland so I hope they have an opportunity to see a little bit of our area while here.

Are any of you familiar with this series?

Very interesting and cool to have visitors from Ireland to your area. I do not know the series, but keep us posted on their visit. Hope they enjoy themselves. I read today that more foreign visitors are traveling to US due to the decline of the dollar.

Here's the link to read the story on Dana. The lead says 5 days ago she was in New York City singing for the Pope and then yesterday she was in North Platte. Pretty neat!

The reporter said she and the film crew were so gracious it was a pleasure to interview them.

You'll need to register to read this story online, but just filled in the blanks with something. Never occurred to me you didn't have to tell the truth on those stupid forms. They just want to see how many new users are online, when they come back to read something, etc.

Also, when you get on that page, you'll see a picture of two of our guys from work who were brave enough to put on women's clothing and shoes and walk, with about 30 other guys, a mile through town. It was a fundraiser for "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" with funds going to the Rape & Domestic Abuse Program in town. I don't recall exactly how much they raised overall, but I was proud of our company .. we had a silent auction and bake sale to raise the entry fees for the two guys and we raised $600 in one afternoon. John, the one in the brown outfit, came back from 18 months in Iraq late last fall. I was proud of them for being such good sports.
