HMMMMMMMMM

So now we have begun with the WPs written by platinum members, labeled by user name.

But since we don't know the identity of editors.....hmmmmm. Maybe it won't REALLY be their first.

Believe I noted this in an earlier post-certainly not to detract anything from Smoke's puzzle enjoyed it ever so much. Personally give less than a hoot who the editors might be but think there is something a bit unfair about being and writing anything both as an editor and a player. H--- , give me a Sploof something name and I'll write and/or say anything-again no offense intended here but one day this issue should be clarified. No, I am not editor bashing so hold the "CHEESE" . Think I am just getting burned out on about everything and I won't let the door hit me in the butt either-Linda

Guess I pretty much do that now without a Splof something name. I have just been very irked lately that editors write the daily questions which they take as players-wasn't always the case and now it is a "perk" for Platinum folks to write puzzles which my guess is most have already done as editors many times. I know everyone is supposed to believe that editors are on the honor system and are chosen because their motives are above reproach. I do not have an answer as if the player privileges are taken away from editors most likely they would have no reason to edit anything-payless task that it is-there just has to be a middle ground somewhere. Missed the game when I quit before so most likely in spite of all my crankiness won't do it again and more than likely will renew my paid membership-again apologies to anyone whom I offended-Linda

It economics Linda. Look how much time and money California could have saved if OJ had been both a defendant and the Judge. When we view it in this manner it instantly becomes clear. We've been here long enough to realize that if you're not in the 'Inner Circle" your voice is mostly ignored. I'm not bashing editors either, but only because I'm busy causing trouble elsewhere. I think Justin and Sploofus are awesome. Editors like the one that told my days were numbered at Sploofus are just a necessary evil. And I do mean Eviiiiiiiiiiiiiiil! God Bless Our Troops!

I just want to reiterate one point here to be very, very clear: Editors DO write TQOTDs, but they have not written them all (more than half of the questions in the database were installed before the editor days) and Justin has set it up so that an Editor CANNOT receive a question he/she wrote. It never happens.

There is no double-dipping in the TQOTD pool. There should never be any reason to look twice at anyone's TQOTD score or leaderboard placement and think they have gained any advantage there by being an editor.

Heidi, did you used to play as Linda? If so I recently took several of your quizzes.

Since Sploofus points are worth all of nothing, I don't see any reason to get worked up over advantages -- real or imagined -- that editors may have to gain points.

Yes, I played under my given name "Linda" before I quit and then couldn't get it back. Points are incidental to me as NEVER will have the necessary speed to excel. Just curious-if these "obscure" daily questions are truly randomly sent, how is it you cannot be sure you will get one you wrote? Some so obscure it is indeed possible one would no=t recall the answer even if he/she wrote it. Thought the additional "perK" of Platinum was going to be more word puzzles (believe it was advertised) not writing them-not that I care-not very good at them anyway. I play for fun and totally obscure questions are NOT fun-Linda There is just some inherently unfair about being two people-like having two accounts-seems to me!!

probably not all-I'm CERTAINLY noyt although I am Platinum. I think it is a safe bet to say the editors are Platinum in their memberships-that meqns many are. Hope when and if you play my quizzes written as "Linda" that you understand that the very early ones before I got the hang of it :"sucked" big time. Tried to go back and fix them but some were unfixable. Noone has explained to my satisfaction how having an account under both and editor and player name is different that folks who had accounts terminated for having 2 accounts-still one person with 2 accounts

Don't know about the two account thing, but just wanted to say my first Word Puzzle is coming up in the morning (sploofus morning time) and it was written by me, Pepperdoc (shortened to Pep, because of space limitations). I am not Sploofishy, who edited the puzzle (thank you, Sploofishy). If I were an editor, I'd want a name like Sploofusgoofus, or something like that.

Carry on the previous discussion...

(oh, and one more thing. Writing a Word Puzzle was a blast. As soon as the announcement came out, I wrote two immediately and could hardly wait for instructions on how to submit. Smoke must have been a speed demon to beat me out of the blocks!)

It always amuses me when there is a discussion about the fairness of something like 100 quiz points here or there, while we see billion point wagers. Larrybus has like 70 billion points. He could make a 7 billion point wager. You have to take 1.4 million 5000 point WPs to equal that one wager.

Repeat -- You have to take 1.4 million 5000 point WPs to equal that one wager.

So, if editors get to take their own wordpuzzles or TQOTD.....I couldn't care less. Good luck and godspeed.

Right on Smaug! I agree with your "points".

This is a free-market based ; "capitalistic" economy on Sploofus Island.

Right back to the damn "capitalistic" market place thing. You are absolutely correct that points means nothing-certainly to me. The lack of fairness in having 2 accounts being fair for some while others have their accounts terminated does. Wish all who are writing them the best with their puzzles. Also wish so much editors were NOT writing ANY daily questions as they were not obscure-tough sometimes but not obscure prior to their doing that. Please someone explain how the 2 accounts for some and not others is in any way "just)-please omit anything to do with economics as -t has no place here-totally different thread. I know, "IF wishes were horses, then beggars would ride." Linda (My points from writing as Linda were not carried over as I was not "asked" to rejoin nor did I ask-not that they mean anything to me.)

I have a solution. If everyone who is not a paying member could just upgrade to platinum so editors could be paid, then Justin could hire some outside editors and/or maybe some of us might give up our player status.

I would just like to clarify that editors don't "have two accounts". We may have two identities to keep our work and play personas separate, but when we play, all the points we earn go to our original player account; no points are scored or logged as editors. We do not get to play twice. Have you ever seen any editor's name on any scoreboard?

Justin has engineered the software so that we never receive TQOTDs we wrote, just as you cannot take your own quizzes. I have never received a question I wrote, either as a daily question or in a showdown. He has also made it so that when we edit quizzes we can't tell which answer is designated as correct. I can only speak for myself, but I rarely take quizzes I've edited, although sometimes I take them weeks or months later without realizing I edited them.

We are very careful about being ethical in doing WPs. Remember that other editors do know who we are, and I'd be doubly ashamed to have another editor know that I was taking unfair advantage of my position. Justin would take a dim view of such behavior, I assure you.

I'm not sure what "perks" are supposed to go with the job, but using inside knowledge to cheat at the games is not among them, and it's sad to think that anyone believes this. I hope this has explained it to everyone's satisfaction.

Quite a few editors don't even play the Word Puzzles, Word Rounds or other games much. We have enough to keep us busy on the Administrative side, and are quite meticulous in our work, or try to be.

We do know the difference between "back peddle" and "back pedal" though.

The editors' replies were excellent.
Their explanations make sense.
This website operates 24 hours/day; 365 days/year.
We should all be appreciative of the tremendous amount of administrative work that is constantly required to keep Sploofus functioning.

For their dedication, the "staff" deserve peppermint patties and wine [not whine].

Of course it does no good to disagree with you as you ALWAYS have the last word-with "hangers-on" full support and applause. If you can reset a word puzzle you can also see one correctly completed. Of course, you don't garner points using your editor name-much too obvious. Taught for ever so long and tried several times to put students on the honor system". Knowing the correct answers were available was just to tempting for the vast majority- know all of you are "special" and above any of that nonsense-Linda

Oh for crying out loud! If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one to complain about it, does an editor still get crucified? Why do you actually REALLY care, Linda? You seem to hope to have the last nasty word everytime this crap comes up. I'm sick to DEATH of it. Can't you get by with making sly nasty PMs like the rest of us do?

Heidi, we reset word puzzles by clicking a button in your account profile that says "Reset WordPuzzle for player". We don't see or go near the word puzzles to reset them. Several (not all) of us have WP editing access. One person is assigned periodically to review WPs. That person does not compete in WPs for that period, though they may complete the puzzle for points as Smoke did yesterday. Do you think 5000 points is excessive recompense for the time and effort it takes to create a puzzle?

Some editors who work support dread getting tickets reporting WP errors, because checking them for errors and making the needed corrections means that editor is out of the running for that WP. Most of us don't mind, but some of the editors enjoy the WPs as much as anyone here, because we enjoy DOING the puzzles, not because we want to use our supposedly privileged positions to cheat the players we're trying to serve out of a few hundred points. It just makes no sense. I'm very sorry you have such a hard time believing that editors have honor.
