QUESTION ABOUT THE "WHO IS?" PUZZLES

I have a question about the "who is" and "where is" puzzles. I noticed sometimes there is a hint and sometimes not. When do these show?..

An editor will probably pop in with the official word, but I think it's after 300 guesses or 24 hours, whichever comes first. It seems like the other day a clue came up in fewer guesses and hours than that...

We desperately need one on the current puzzle....I wish the editors would take the time to create wikipedia entries for some of these people/places to help us figure them out!! Would be nice of them.

Okay, I had to go back a couple of weeks, but here was the response on a related thread:

If we give a hint it will appear right above the box where you type your guess. A hint won't be given until all 12 tiles have been removed. As of right now we would also prefer to wait until at least 300 guesses have been entered.

Or 24 hours, whichever comes first.

We have found that 300 may be high right now due to the lower number of Beta Testers. We are just using our judgment and putting one up when we think there is no end in sight.

Stoutyounglad, in case you may not have noticed, you can access a wikipedia article AFTER the puzzle is solved. Click on the person/place name on the right hand side of the page and the wikipedia article will be brought up. On rare occasions a different website had to be used instead of a wikipedia article if one was not available. This was the case with Herb Parsons.

Hey, while your bothering to listen to me, can you do some beaches? Haven't seen any yet, or maybe roadside attractions like the trees of mystery or something? thanks.

1. It's strange about the Magic Roundabout because that had an article when I added the puzzle at least a week ago.

2. I'll see what can be done about your suggested places. So far the beaches I have seen haven't had anything that made them stand apart and I thought it might be cruel to include them.

3. How the heck did you figure out Henrik Stenson so fast? Obviously my hints need some work!

Actually the article for Swindon which mentions the Magic Roundabout is still in wikipedia at this address: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swindon

Apparently something went wrong with my copying and pasting. Apologies.

Good point I suppose on the beaches, though I imagine some beaches have things that make them stand out....that muscle beach in California I went to has all that workout equipment all over the place. Anyways, the clue was uber-specific. I just googled "swede" and "14th in the world" and it was the fourth entry down. Did an image search to make sure, but that doesn't really look like him when he's playing!! Oh well, thanks for the hot tip!

I think the clue was probably posted only for a minute or two. Blink and you would've missed it!!

Interesting, stoutyounglad. I thought by not mentioning golf it would not be so easy to find and figured if I didn't mention Swedish it would be even harder. I'll have to start googling my own hints prior to entering them now. Thanks.

The link to the Magic Roundabout (Swindon) was working on the day the puzzle was solved, but it isn't now.

This link should work:

Please take into consideration all the long and hard searching we've done by the time we are given a clue, so we can use all the help we can get by that time. We don't want to get frustrated and give up on it.

Marilyn...
