I just took "Stranded On An Island Of Initials" by Chickfbref1 and loved it. The initials refer to the authors who use initials rather than their full first and middle names. Great quiz and very cleverly done. I highly recommend it!
It's a recent quiz under General Literature.

Ok, it's time to start addressing the question of the criteria for the Editor's Award - why didn't this quiz get one?
I should also mention that Bigbird has written a few recently that should have won (Did You Catch the Leap Second? and New Words: 2005 come to mind).
Any way for we players to put in our 2 cents worth when it comes to the Editors Awards?

Someone on another forum had suggested a possible 'user award', and I think that's a GREAT idea!

I believe this has been suggested before, but maybe it's as simple as a new category "Highest Rated Quizzes" - the top ten quizzes by user ratings (at least 25 takers). It could stay at the top along with the most popular quizzes. Quizzes that have already received the Editor's Award should be excluded.

Whoa asdibbens, well said. That sounds like the perfect solution! I vote 'aye'!

Of course I say 'simple' having no idea how hard that would be to program.

Also the problem with a "highest rated" category would be that quizzes often have an artificially high rating after only a few takers.

I don't think the top 10 quizzes are necessarily the best written ones. This is mainly due to the fact that the number of people who take the quiz is a factor and quizzes that don't appeal to over 100 people quiz (or are written in a popular genre therefore fall of the "new" page quickly) are ignored.

I think that is the thought process behind trying to find a forum that people can show their appreciation for works of others would be beneficial to all.

Just my 2 cents...Kelly

Perfect example.

Sploofus' quiz on a "Drop of Water". This quiz probably wouldn't appeal to over 100 people due to the complex nature of the quiz. Had it not been given the Editor's would have disappeared into oblivion.

We are just looking for a forum for quizzes that aren't given that award to showcase them as well.

I hope that whatever happens, we don't start recognizing on the simple highest number of takers. I have taken many popular quizzes that were disappointing or were just fluffly little quick point generators. Popularity, like in movies, restaurants and most others things has little to do with quality or value.

Steve has chimed in.

As an author of countless thought provoking quizzes...his quizzes...albeit difficult and challenging...are nonetheless some of the greatest quizzes out here. And again...back to the # of takers criteria, most of his quizzes are not going to appear on the "Most Popular Quizzes" list...cause they are just plain genius and too difficult for most. 2 cents...Kelly

This is exactly the reason for the Editor's Awards, to feature good quizzes that would never make it to the top ten otherwise. PLEASE keep in mind that the awards are only a selection of the good quizzes, and represent the favorite quizzes of the editors. We can't award every quiz, and I'll be the first to say there are many super quizzes that have not been awarded. This system is new, and we're still in the process of awarding older quizzes. In the meantime, be glad that there's a list of SOME quizzes that are guaranteed to be a bit better than some of the ones you encounter.

I didn't realize that older quizzes would eventually be reviewed and considered for Editor's Choice awards. Awesome!

First, Jedley, thanks for the kind words about my quizzes.

I also think it is interesting that past quizzes are being reviewed for an Editors Award, and I certainly support the idea of a User Award, as I have written in other areas of the chat forum.

I was wondering if there is any tally being kept about the ratings that users are giving quizzes that have been getting Editors Awards. We currently have 3 choices, essentially amounting to "deserved it, didn't deserve it, stinky quiz". We don't have the ability to rank these quizzes the same way the others are ranked.

So, the question is, do the majority of these quizzes consistently get "deserved it" from the quiz takers? Why is the system different for rating them? Maybe if those choices were given to other quizzes, we would find that lots of folk would rank other quizzes as "deserved it".

I actually tend to stay away from the Editors Award quizzes because I hate the glaring red boxes. The format hurts my eyes. I wish they would look just like the others.

Enough rambling. Alice
