MILITARY ACTORS WP

Though generally speaking a good WordPuzzle, this WP contains a piece of erroneous information in one of the puzzles. Since it's not a well-know piece of information, it probably won't affect anyone's solving, but I thought it ought to be pointed out. (One case of inappropriate tense in another puzzle might affect someone's solving--it cost me four moves--but them's the breaks, I guess.)

I liked it a lot - learned some really interesting things about some great actors. Unfortunately encountered a WP bug that cost me lots of moves, but I enjoyed the puzzle so much it didn't bother me! Thanks Taco for another excellent effort.

I know the one you're talking about. He had the right actor, but the wrong story.

One of my all time favorites. I just wish I grokked the theme earlier.

Really fun!

Another problem - one of the puzzles uses the past tense in regards to a person who is not yet dead.

All the phrases I saw were in the past tense, making it consistent with either the past event or deed described.

Thanks for a great WP, Taco, I really enjoyed it! I was way too reckless with this one, though, and so I kept losing three moves, but that's OK. I learned a lot and had fun, so you get a thumbs up from me.

Very nice Taco I got the one with the wrong info but I can see why you made that error, some sites say it's true. Didn't effect me, just another typing error on my part May I retake my exams when I'm feeling better, no, guess not.

Really excellent puzzle; thanks.
Yes the tense error in one case is completely illogical and I fell for it despite reading this thread.
but I'm not bitter; not at all.....
Just happy to be doing the puzzle at all since an editor had to reset it for me in the middle of my night --and doubtless his too. THANKS!

Thank you all for the remarks. I appreciate it. When it is over, perhaps someone can inform me what the error might be?

No idea.

I thought it was a good puzzle too. I did notice the tense problem but luckily had already played enough letters to not get messed up by it. I still didn't do very well but it must have been VERY easy since someone to get it in 5 moves and 67 seconds?????(fishy) I think it was 67. I find those numbers very difficult to believe.

Taco, the error was in the puzzle about Jason Robards, Jr. Though it has been erroneously said that he witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor, in actuality he was on a cruiser miles away and only witnessed the devestation later. According to Wikipedia, the factual story is in a book titled "Duty, Honor, Applause: America's Entertainers in World War II," by Gary L. Bloomfield and Stacy L. Shain.

BTW, the tense error was in the clue about Sean Connery: his tattoo still says "Scotland Forever," since he is still very much alive.

The 5 moves, 67 second person just joined in January of this year, and it was his/her first WP of May. Imagine the score with more practice...probably a minus number.

5 moves and 67 seconds?

Where do you find the past WP results in B 2.0?

I logged in 1.0, and that 5 move score has been removed from the results.

I hope at least one of the other five puzzles included a woman since there were also actresses who were in the military or important to war efforts.

A great topic for a WP.

I had one too. To make up for it, I had the mysterious battlefield with the Welshlike spelling.

(Don't mind me, I'm wallowing in self-pity over my recent WP performance. On Gangs of Four today, I of course lost 3+ moves guessing the wrong baseball great who spelled his name Hank ?auer. And we won't talk about whose name it took me a ton of tries to spell (enough that I finally looked the thing up!) in the most clever Operatic Movies.)

As an old Orioles fan, I was tempted by that B, but it just didn't feel right and I didn't know the other name, so I googled.
